“B and B Heaven”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We stayed here for one night quite by chance and were extremely pleased to have done so.

The hosts were very welcoming and provided everything we could have wished for and more. The property is delightful, spacious and tastefully decorated and the bedroom and ensuite were stylish, comfortable and immaculate.

We would definitely stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend the B and B and its hosts to discerning travellers and holiday makers.

I booked this B&B following the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. As soon as we walked through the door we got a warm welcome by Jolyon and Lawrence and we immediately felt at home. The room we were in was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean with stunning views across the garden. Jolyon was extremely accommodating throughout our stay even ironing a couple of tops that didn't cope well in the suitcase!

The B&B is surrounded by stunning countryside and there are a lots of nice places locally to visit as well as some nice pubs in the nearest village.

I have to admit that Lola and Tiny also played a part in our enjoyment of our stay. Both dogs are extremely friendly and were always excited to see us.

I genuinely can't recommend Shoyswell Cottage enough. I have stayed in a lot of nice places in the past but this place definitely tops them. I am hoping that we will be back again soon!

I usually only write reviews when I feel the need to grumble about bad service or misadventures... But in the case of this B&B I simply MUST let readers know that paradise DOES exist and it's just a few minutes off the A21 towards Hastings!!!

Perfection is the only way to describe it. Relaxing athmosphere, elegant and meticolously maintained and cleaned interiors, a vast garden with all manners of things to admire and cosy furniture that invite you to seat amongst nature and breathtaking landscapes ("Garden"? Serious competition to Kew Gardens more like!), unspoiled views, the nicest hosts you can ever hope for, not to mention lovely ducks, pheasants, Bambi and the two human-like, very well behaved and cute little dogs.

The rooms are so well appointed and lawishly furnished, and the bed is so confortable and cosy that we have taken photographs and checked labels (inspiration for the next decorating round!).

We are about to go back home and cannot wait to come back for more. Thank you Jolyon and Lawrence!

Room Tip: They are all stunning (we had a good look around) - there is no need to differentiate but we suppose...

Charming hosts, charming property, clean, immaculate and very luxurious!

Without a doubt would recommend this and would return if in the area although this time we would take the hosts up on their offer of dinner rather than try local pubs.

Just excellent! Thank you

We stayed here for two nights for my dad's 50th. We wanted a relaxing time away and that's exactly what we got . We were greeted by the lovely Jolyon on arrival and instantly felt at home. Our rooms were emmaculate and the whole cottage had been decorated beautifully, so much to look at I have to give their lovely little dogs a mention, Lola & Tiny, they also made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was delicious and Jolyon couldn't do enough for us, very good service. Both Lawrence & Jolyon were very welcoming, although we didn't see much of Lawrence as he was working hard in the gardens- doing a
grand job! I hope everyone who visits here continues to give it the five stars it lives up to. Thank you for the great experience and we will be back in the near future! xx

As soon as we arrived we loved Shoyswell cottage! We were greeted with real friendliness and immediately felt at home.
The cottage is decorated & furnished to such a high standard, all rooms beautifully designed to feels like real luxury.
We stayed in the Garden Room which had huge windows that looked over the beautiful grounds and pond. The bed was so comfortable, the shower a amazing and it was so clean!

Downstairs you can have a drink from the drinks cabinet in the beautiful lounge and the drinks will just get added to the bill. We enjoyed a gin an tonic whilst getting ready to go for dinner in the nearby village. We found this such a lovely touch.

Our hosts Jolyon and Lawrence were brilliant characters, as were their darling dogs Tiny and Lola. We loved our time chatting with them. They made us feel right and home and recommend a fantastic pub for food - The Bell.

The breakfast was incredible and you get to have views of the garden whilst you eat!

We will without a doubt return to Shoyswell Cottage! We are already planning a summer stay where we can fish in the pond and walk in the beautiful fields.

This was the best B&B we have ever stayed there! Absolutely amazing in every way!!

Such a lovely stay.

Room Tip: If you love a light, sunny room with amazing views go for the Garden Room!

We booked into The Bell at Ticehurst only to find that they had double booked us. They very kindly said they would find us a B&B nearby and wow did they come up trumps! We only met Joylon as Lawrence was away on business but the welcome provided by Joylon,Tiny and Lola made up for his absence. Shoyswell Cottage is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The cottage was decorated for Christmas and I came away with several ideas for my own decorating including finding the colour Alfie for my walls! Breakfast was superb with home made breads and a full English for those that wanted it. We were made to feel so welcome that next time we are in the area we will certainly opt for Shoyswell Cottage over The Bell!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Shoyswell Cottage B&B is situated in an idyllic location of outstanding natural beauty about 2 miles from the village of Ticehurst, standing on the crest of a hill overlooking the Fleet Valley. The original cottages were built in the 18th century, and then in the 1930’s a villa was constructed next to them, and over the years this has been extended into the current rambling house. The house has gardens of about 3 ½ acres which includes a natural, spring-fed pond, vegetable garden and greenhouse, ornamental flower beds, and a small wood Accommodation:The current owners, two Notting Hill refugees, have taken the original 1930’s villa and converted this from a private residence into an upmarket B&B, which comprises 4 double bedrooms, a large communal sitting / garden room, entrance hall and the breakfast room. The gardens are completely at the disposal of our guests. The bedrooms have all been converted to have en-suite bathrooms, and all feature either King Size or Twin beds (according to your taste,) luxurious bed linen, fluffy towels, toiletries, flat screen TV/DVD, and tea/coffee making facilities.Breakfast:It has become something of a cliché to offer organic and locally-sourced, but we do take this very seriously…right down to the eggs which come from our own chickens clucking about in the vegetable garden, the meat which comes from our local farmer, the bread and jams which are homemade – we would even grow the coffee and tea if we had the climate!Your Hosts:Jolyon worked for a large Publishing House as the Publisher of a well-known luxury Hotel guide, and travelled extensively in Europe and the Middle East. Later he moved into hotel consultancy , and maintains strong contacts working within the hotel business.Lawrence is the Global Head of Visual for the fashion company COS, part of the H&M Group, and continues to travel extensively all over the World. He is a keen collector of objets d’art and a visual virtuoso.Additional Services:Ideally located an hour by train from London Charing Cross, we are happy to pick-up / drop-off at Etchingham Station.Dinner is available on request, otherwise we can recommend various restaurants in the area, as well as our two local gastro-pubs which offer excellent food.We can also organise picnics if requested, supplying everything neededfor an al fresco feast!Special events (Weddings, Birthday parties, Bar Mitzvah’s etc.,) can be arranged, as can sole use of house, should you wish to have a very private event. For any other ideas which you might wish to arrange – simply speak to the Hosts! ... more   less
