The Beehive Tearooms is situated in the centre of Rochford, and is just 100m outside the market square. It's by far the homeliest place for food and refreshments in the centre of Rochford, and the owners have gone to a lot of trouble make visitors feel welcome in their surroundings. There are shelves decorated with personal effects such as ornaments, and chinaware, and all around are 1950s-1960s pop memorabilia. The Elvis Presley hip-swinging clock is a nice touch, and the café even has its own used vinyl store (well-stocked with 1950s-1980s LPs) at the back of the premises in the garden. The garden itself is very peaceful, being on the opposite side of the building from North Street, and the vintage enamel advertisements add a nice retro touch to the scenery. Years ago, there was a collection of air rifles on display in the front window and lounge, but times have changed since then..!
The menu is a traditional British café menu, offering fried breakfasts, sandwiches and jacket potatoes, as well as pie & mash, fish & chips etc., all made with quality ingredients. The service is both friendly and prompt, as you'd expect from a place where a lot of effort has been made on the personal touch of the décor.
This is a place I've been immensely fond of since the early 1990s, and although I've moved away from Rochford, it's still good to pop in for lunch when I'm in the area. It's situated in a quiet market town well-served by public transport, and less than a mile from Southend Airport. There's also a huge car park adjacent to South Street, where the café is situated. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting or living in the area.
