The Old Chapel is beautiful and very comfortable. Fantastic location for walking in the Forest and exploring the area. Really well appointed with everything you would need, and a little more.

My husband and I have stayed at The Old Chapel twice now with our teenage daughter. It is in a fantastic location on the edge of a village, with the forest opposite the doors. It is a true home from home, very clean and comfortable, with everything you could need.
It is perfectly located for all the attractions in the forest of dean and the wye valley.
We all loved it , and felt revived and relaxed at the end of our holiday!

“A home away from home”

Our family is not generally in the habit of going somewhere on a holiday twice. Except for the Old Chapel in the Forest of Dean – this spring was our third stay and not without good reason as to us. Both the cottage and the surrounding area have proved to be a haven of peace, quiet and relaxed good living for us. The cottage is the most welcoming place with the Forest of Dean right on its doorstep (and outside the French windows!). The roomy living area with the central wood burner, the high ceilings, comfy seats and tasteful lighting actually turns the chapel into an enchanting hunting lodge. Both on foot and by car there is so much to see and experience in the neighbourhood. Every time we have done new walks and some are so nice that we’ve gone on a re-run (e.g. the bird observatory, Mallard’s Pike). Just a very short drive away and you are in the Wye Valley (Symond’s Yat and the peregrine falcons nesting there is a must-see (RSPB) , as is Chepstow, Tintern Abbey – not to mention the Gruffalo for the little ones or Go Ape for the adventurous). Another one of our favourite destinations is Monmouthshire and the Brecon Beacons beyond. For culture and shopping we’ve gone for Bath (so easy with the park and ride), Cheltenham, Gloucester and next time we’ll probably head for Bristol. However nice the visit, returning to the cottage always puts a smile on your faces. The cottage has all you need to prepare full lunch or dinner. When we go out to eat the Ostrich Inn in Newland is our favourite and everything you could possibly want in a good pub – gourmet food in the most beautiful setting (inside and out). When we were preparing for all our stays Doreen has always been a one-of-a-kind host. The cottage has always been very clean and tidy and there was an immediate mutual trust from the first time. One time when something needed to be serviced, she phoned us on our way to the cottage (Saturday) telling us that everything would be set and taken care of upon arrival and so it was – she needn’t have told us, but she did. We wholeheartedly recommend The Old Chapel – just not when we are planning to leave the continent and head for the Forest of Dean. This endorsement is my first ever online review and I’m happy to share it with you.

“A cosy, peaceful converted chapel surrounded by the beautiful Forest of Dean”
Reviewed 4 October 2014 for a stay in November 2013

The Old Chapel sits on the very edge of the forest, making walking and cycling straight from the front door easy. The accommodation is exremely clean and comfortable, charming and very well-appointed. There is plenty to do in the area, wonderful walks and cycle tracks and excellent places to eat just a short drive away. It was autumn when we visited and the colours in the forest were amazing. The efficient central heating kept us nicely warm and the wood burning stove gave added warmth and cosiness in the evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back.

“Home from Home”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Our third year staying in this lovely converted chapel, we absolutely love it, 4 of us staying and spending our week cycling and walking in the area. The Owner could not be more pleasant or helpful, an absolute pleasure to deal with and provides everything you could possibly ever need for a comfortable retreat. We have taken to ordering Tesco delivery on line which arrives with all our goodies for the week and works perfectly. Look forward to many more visits in the future.

“Lovely peaceful accommodation with everything you could need”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

I stayed here with my mother for a 3 night break. The chapel sits right on the edge of woodland and is as peaceful as you could wish for. The accommodation is very well kept and the owner really has thought of everything that you might need while you are there including a wealth of information on the surrounding area. I've hired a number of houses and this really is excellent value for money. Thank you very much!!!
