“Very remote but charming family vacation”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

We visited here in fall 2013 and had fantasies of a relaxing beach vacation. We stayed in a beautiful two story ocean front house and loved having our own little home for the week. We only ate at the bar once, so I can't really speak to the quality of the food or drinks.

The following details the more challenging aspects of our vacation: constantly dirty pool, mice in the house and off the grid system. We were without water for half day twice during our vacation. Not exactly relaxing when traveling with two babies. I didn't want a luxury camping trip, even if the cost was too good to pass up.

We aren't surfers so we expected to spend more time by the pool. The pool was subpar and often dirty. We even took the liberty of finding the pool net and skimming it ourselves.

We loved Cabo and next time we will be sure to stay in a less remote location.

We just got home from our "vacation" cerritos surf colony is a dump! The price seems like a great deal. Add in $500-$600 for a rental car. Better of staying in a nice resort in cabo. We stayed in a 1 bed Villa. Very dirty, everything is covered in dust. Our bedding or lack there of was stained, 1 sheet and a thin comforter(it gets cold at night). There was what appeared to be a blood stain on one side of the bed. And the place smells like mold and mildew. Ask for housekeeping they might show up 3 days later. They say there conserving water. We went to walmart in cabo. Bought our own cleaning supplies, towels, blankets, and pillows. On a positive note The food was good (except the raw chicken I ate the last night I was there) it is dark and you can't see your food at night. They close the bar/resturant around 8:00 so eat early or you will go hungry until morning. Most of the employees have only been there for a few weeks. The GM is very rude. Needless to say we will Never return to this "resort"

I bought a Groupon for a three night stay here. Note to Groupon buyers: the price of the Groupon does NOT include the 19% tax, so expect to pay an additional $60+ dollars upon arrival. I might not have considered the $369 for three nights to have been such a great deal had I considered the fine print and done the math before buying it. My fault there. The accommodations were nice though. Not luxurious by any means, but nice and spacious. We loved having a full kitchen (though the oven didn't work but the gas burners did). The resort should consider providing paper towels in the kitchen or at least a hand towel and a dish rack for doing dishes. All they provide is some dish soap. That's kinda lame. Also, the silverware and pots and pans are very limited, so don't plan to cook too much, otherwise bring cooking utensils and pots and pans with you! I read someone else's review and brought my own blender to make morning smoothies. Thanks to that same reviewer, we also stopped at the grocery store on our way to Todos Santos/el Pescadero. We stocked up on fruit, beer, fresh tortillas and cheese, coffee, creamer, etc. so that we could make a few meals at the condo. There is a coffee machine in the condo but no coffee. Another suggestion for the surf colony (which I made to deaf ears while there) was they need bath mats for the showers. The tile is super slippery after a shower, and there are no shower doors, so bath mats are needed. I asked for a hand towel as there were none in our condo and I was told they didn't have any, though some old worn ones showed up later that night. First world problems, I know. The po area is excellent though, as is the bar and the food they serve at the bar area. I had coconut crusted fish for dinner which was incredible! Bravo to the chef there!! Thanks to another reviewers suggestion, we did drive to La Paz one day which was easy and beautiful. And just like the other reviewer, we also were pulled over by the cops for no apparent reason (except for the fact that all of the rental cars in Cabo have the name of the car rental on the back of the car to evidently alert the police that you are a tourist, hence giving them the opportunity to pull you over and then extort American dollars out of you. Honestly, for this reason alone I may never go back to Mexico . That made the entire trip sour, as you end up feeling robbed by the police! I'll go to Hawaii next time I want a short getaway as that island has no hassle on comparison. Also, I beware of the car rental scams, with regards to buying expensive insurance, turns out my Amex card would have covered foreign insurance. Too many scams in Mexico make for a not so tourist friendly country in my opinion.

Views are breathtaking. Sublime Setting in Palapas Ocean Front. A great bonding time for Kids, Parents, Grandma. We all loved the old timey Mexican ambilence you will not find anywhere near Cabo. I hope Cerritos Surf Colony remains an under the radar paradise for a long time to come. Ecological activities abound. Owner Roger Pollock could not have been more welcoming to every guest . He took our kids to meet children at Father John's orphanage Girls had an elegant sleepover at the beautifully Artwork appointed Hacienda. There is something for everyone, surf for kids was safe and amazing. Ocean fishing awesome, while Whales ( save us) leap in front of you. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food great. Munching Shrimp at Happy hour around the beautiful pool and hot tubs. Todas Santos nearby Art shops charming colonial town saved by restricting USA fast food joints. Wonderful Market place had upscale crafts for sale. Memories last forever, Thank you Roger.

Room Tip: all good rooms quiet environment

I have to say, I was charmed by this place. I was nervous due to the mixed reviews, but I went in expecting nothing and was blown away.
The water will cut out on you over the course of a week, it's almost guaranteed. But it comes back on quickly and is safe to drink (at least, we drank it and had no problems!). The beds are very firm, and the ocean is far from quiet. There may or may not be tiny ants in your kitchen area and a few random mosquitos, but they are not a bother. The place was spotless otherwise. These are literally the only things that we noticed as being inconvenient, and they really weren't. There's free wifi by the pool, which is great. You can't be checking email every second of the day.
Driving up to El Pescadero was beautiful, but all desert- once you get down the little dirt road to the Colony, you land in paradise. They did a wonderful job with the plants . . . so many flowers! The pool is lovely and there was never a shortage of lounge beds.
Stop at Walmart. Rent a car from Cactus. Pop up to El Pescadero and visit Baja Beans and make sure to stop at the little fish taco stand right by the road leading to it. Hierbabuena is a must as well, if you enjoy amazing food at very reasonable prices in the middle of a fantastic garden.
We went with family and we all had the same amount of dishware- two mugs, bowls, plates, and sets of silverware per villa. I'm assuming anything larger than the 1 bedrooms would have more. There was a toaster, microwave, little fridge, and sink in our studio villa, and my sister had a stovetop, full fridge, blender, pots/pans, and coffee maker in her 1 bedroom villa.
We got a voucher for the week and I couldn't have been happier with the place for what we paid. If you're looking at spending full price, I would go to an all-inclusive simply because it would come out cheaper after food and airfare.
But if you want to see Mexico without all the crazed spring breakers, smog, and traffic, come here. Don't expect ritz; go to the Hacienda if that's more your style. This place is everything it claims to be, and it's delightful.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa, it was huge! 2 bedrooms 2 baths upstairs and a big kitchen, dining area and living room downstairs. Awesome pool with great lounge beds that are always available, no need to save them at the crack of dawn like places in cabo. Wish they would upgrade their sheets, towels, and silverware. Our sheets were ripped and stained and towels were flimsy and not replaced each day and only had 4 forks, 3 spoons and 2 knives. $100 in upgrades for the unit would made my 4 stars into 5. Overall a great place away from the chaos. Unfortunately the waiters at the pool bar did not have answers to basic questions like "is there a happy hour?" "What type of trees are the posts made of?" It was great to not have cell phones or tv for 4 days!

We had read the reviews and been to Cerritos beach before this was built, so we knew what to expect. This is not a fancy Cabo resort with night life, which is why we came here.
Everything was well maintained and clean, staff was nice and didn't bother us. Pool was quite and relaxing, great beach (no vendors)
Had a 2 bedroom on the beach side ( a must). We shopped in Cabo for groceries beer and wine, cooked dinner in our kitchen and found all we needed except no towels in kitchen.
Would highly recommend this resort for those who come to Mexico to expierence the Mexican way of life!!!
