sleeping in the tower is an experience. Nieu Bethesda is a small village where time stood still. the service at the tower is good, we had a nice breakfast! The art which is showed in the gallerie is worth seeing

We stayed in the tower itself. Very Cute accommodation with a round room and round bad with bathrooms 2 floors down. Waking up was very easy, as sun couldn't be blocked out by very decorative curtains (but why sleep on holidays :)), so we though we woke up in Mexico. Breakfast was traditional and good.

Town itself is interesting, especially if you would like to take a break from city life. Town itself has not much to offer but there it traditional bar, owl house, cheese farm, brewery, restaurants and a few tourist shops.

Try it out, I recommend it.

Super cute and quirky and very cheap to boot. Top room has the giant circular bed and bottom room has two single beds. only thing that wasn't so comfy was the distance to the loo and top room's curtains were white so dont expect to be able to sleep late. Had dinner and breakfast there - was very traditional "boere" food but of good quality and the portions were very generous. the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

This spot is fine for a night or 2 but longer than that, you might start to miss your creature comforts like en-suite bathroom, bath, TV or undercover patio. Luckily its a very dry area with little rain so the chances of being stuck indoors is low. Can get boiling hot in the Karoo in summer so I imagine you will sorely miss an aircon then.

I can also recommend the nearby micro brewery for lunch - superb! (cheese platters, also made on the farm).

Room Tip: top room has more charm but remember they both share the same bathroom so for privacy, you need to b...

For something entirely different ... The accommodation here includes two round bedrooms (with round beds) in a tower, and a shared bathroom which was clean and fine. Dinner and breakfast were inexpensive welcome inclusions and served in the non-profit community arts centre in which the accommodation is situated. Very close to the Owl House which is the draw card of this village but it is a pleasant enough place to walk around (not forgetting the suspension bridge) and overall a fascinatingly different place for a day and a night. While the Accommodation is simple, so a Tripadvisor grading of 'average' sounds realistic, we'd have no significant criticisms of the place or service.

Room Tip: Given the shortage of eateries in the village it seemed worth booking for dinner there too.

We found Nieu Bethesda not a very pleasant place. From what we saw, it is a community that are somewhat parasitical on the Owl House. Indifferent service.

My family booked this tower for the Easter weekend as who wouldn’t want to stay in a fairytale tower! The top room is especially fun – with a huge round bed and beautiful reed –lined turret ceiling (very romantic!) The middle room is a twin and there is a kitchen on the bottom floor where all the café food is prepared. The small toilet and shower is also on the ground floor, so if you stay here in winter – be warned to take your sheepskin slippers to brave the walk down to the toilet at 2am!

The B&B, café, and gallery are all run as a non-profit organization – with the aim of building skills and job creation within the local community. Considering this, and the fact that Nieu Bethesda is stuck in the 1900’s, don’t expect speedy world-class service. Rather, stay here if you want to give something back to this fantastic little town’s community. Expect quirkiness, genuinely warm local staff and a long wait for a well-worth-the-wait breakfast (all the better to enjoy your morning brew and get into the pace of rural life).

If you are coming to Nieu Bethesda over a busy period (like Easter!) I would suggest booking dinner ahead as there are only 2-3 places to eat in the whole town and they close pretty early. We didn’t have dinner at the Tower Café but their curry certainly smelled amazing. I highly recommend a visit to the Brewery for some excellent beer and a home-made cheese platter - heavenly!
