My Wife and I once again visited the Red Lion for a stay before and after a holiday in Whitby. The welcome we received from Chris was warm and friendly, the beer and food great. The room we had for the night before our holiday was a double which was clean, warm and had everything you need for a night stay. On return we had a family room because it was so busy and this was super we sat on the settee to watch Football my Wife on hers and me on mine. The bar staff and regulars were very friendly and sociable and Chris's wife, Yvonne ( I think ) was always happy and chirpy whilst serving Breakfast. The Red Lion is an ideal stop over for travellers from the Southwest going to Scotland and vice versa as it is only 3 miles from the M6 and in a totally different world where you can enjoy Walks or use as a base to explore the surrounding area, from beautiful villages, the canal, the seaside at Southport, or the bustling of Wigan,Manchester and Liverpool. The Red Lion combines an Olde Worlde Pub with modern and welcoming Accommodation. Thanks once again to Chris and his Staff for a wonderful stay.

Ideal pub / hotel.

Nice friendly bar and pub food in the evening clean, warm rooms in a next door annex.

Breakfast was good but disappointed the coffee was only instant, apparently health and safety won’t allow proper coffee to be served???

Good off road parking.

Apart from the coffee everything was very good so would stop her again.

My husband & I stayed here for 1 night. Great value for money. Exceptional service, the staff were marvelous. Accommodation was very clean with tea/coffee & bottles of water. The breakfast was very good, cooked to perfection & piping hot. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Thank you for a perfect stay

We booked here as visiting family in the area what a gem of a place! We were greeted by Chris who checked us in quickly and explained food service times and hotel information on returning to the bar we opted for one of the cask ales which was wonderful! We ate in the pub the food was hot and well presented, as it was quiz night we decided to play along we had a great night can’t rate highly enough we will definitely return thanks to all at the red lion!

Didnt realise was quiz night ...so thought would be nice as my husband enjoys them...

However the language from the groups around the bar was awful and unfortunately the staff were equally disturbing ...what i assumed would be a quiet country pub ended up with one of the female guests taking the quiz masters microphone during a break and barking out whats your favourite four letter swear word ...refined quaint enjoyable were far from my experience... really rather poor ...such a shame
