What can I say? A lovely hotel. Staff welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was in what looks like may have been stables at one point. The room was immaculately clean and well decorated with possibly the biggest, most comfortable bed we've slept in. The breakfast was lovely.

The only minor criticism was hat while in the shower the water wasn't draining well- mentioned it while checking out and it's a longstanding problem with the plumbing.

This is a lovely hotel in a very pretty setting, we got married here in 2010 in the oak panelled restaurant, it was a wonderful day in a place full of character, ideal for a small intimate wedding with the bonus of adding a marquee if wanted which we did, it gave quests the option of moving around. The staff couldn't do enough to ensure the day went perfectly and we stayed in their bridal bedroom with a four poster bed and lovely features, not like a hotel room at all. We have had dinner there since and the room is superb, this really is a good hotel with friendly and helpful staff, would highly recommend.

Room Tip: If you want character choose a room in the main hotel, the rooms outside are more modern.

Beautiful building and great location. The restaurant was closed for a private function so we had to eat in the bar area - not a problem. Food was good quality and a high standard - thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

We had the Lady Chandos room - details on Bookings.com stated all classic double rooms are 16 sq mtrs this room was no where near that size and was disappointing. Decoration must have been wonderful when completed but is looking a bit tired now. En-suite was clean and nice powerful shower. The light in the bedroom could only be turned on/off on one side of the bed which was a pain, space on one side between the bed and the wall was about four inches so getting in and out wasn't easy. I would question if it was a standard double 4'6 bed - more like a 4' so cosy! - Really i would regard this as a large single room. It did feel like this was the 'cheap, last minute rate' room. Though at £85 for one night b&b I wouldn't regard this as cheap.

Staff were all friendly and helpful apart from the grey haired mature guy on reception when we settled our bill who didn't even enquire if we had enjoyed our stay. If this was the owner then shame on you!

Room Tip: Not Lady Chandos if there are 2 of you!

We arrived to have a bite of lunch whilst waiting for Chenies Manor to open and went into the bar to find a table. One member of staff rushing about serving drinks for a large party in an adjoining room and another also very busy. We managed to get the OK to sit at an empty table and waited for somebody to show some interest in us. We were completely ignored for at least five minutes and I was on the point of walking out but my partner managed to get the attention of a waitress who was serving drinks about 8ft away from us and asked for a menu. Once she had taken the drinks to the other party we were given the menu and eventually we managed to get our order taken (we only wanted a starter each). It took about 15 mins for cold starters to arrive but when they did they were very nice indeed. The table next to us which had 3 ladies on it were also fed up with the service and the fact that there were no salads available. All in all we wished we had driven up the road to the Red Lion. We would not go again.

Better than average, not worth going out of your way for but a charming diversion if you happen to be passing. Service and hospitality of the staff in the bar and restaurant was excellent. Good location for beautiful Chiltern country walking.
