“not improved!”
Reviewed 7 June 2013

I went back to Bedford arms after I recently discovered that it was under new ownership. Having been before when the food was superb, but some issues front of house I thought I should give them another chance.
Well unfortunately there has been no improvement, in fact I am sorry to say that it is worse than before. The food now is bordering on acceptable, but not good value for money at all. The service is slow, non attentive and very disappointing. The staff were not smiling or showing interest in serving us at the table on what was a pretty quiet evening, the blonde girl behind the bar was more interested in using her mobile phone.
But the worst part of the visit was witnessing the elderly gentlemen, who was scruffy and untidy behind the bar. He poured a glass of red wine and very quickly consumed it behind the bar in a matter of seconds. He then poured a second and took it away with him around the corner into the other bar.I was so shocked to see such a thing. I will not be visiting the Bedford Arms Hotel ever again.

My wife and I visted on a lovely sunny day for lunch. They have plenty of outside seating as well as a bar area and restaurant. The staff are attentive, the food is excellent and good value for money.
The hotel is under new ownership, they have a wealth of experience and it shows.
Beautiful setting. We will be back.

We dropped in to the Bedford Arms in Chenies on a spur of the moment lunch date, the staff were very helpful and although the bar was very busy we were found a table and enjoyed a perfect poached salmon lunch in delightful surroundings the staff were very friendly, as were the other customers, the menu was very varied and we will be going back to sample some of the other delights.
We understand it is under new management, more power to their elbows

My family and I stopped to have lunch in this hotel on Bank Holiday Sunday. The weather was glorious for a change and the place was packed. The owner, as soon as we arrived came over to see if he could be of help to us , as the car park was pretty full and our party consisted of two young children six adults and a wheelchair as well. The set up of the garden has seating to the front of the hotel all with very comfortable covers for added comfort and a large garden area to the side of the hotel with plenty of chairs and tables, all with umbrella’s for shade. Anyway to cut a long story short we were made to feel very welcome and the service was excellent too. The food although we didn’t have a traditional Sunday Lunch, was very tasty and well presented. There is also plenty of room for the children to run around which is becoming more and more unusual in this day and age.
All in all a very pleasant experience, with the owner being an excellent host to all his guests. I would imagine that it would also be an excellent place to have a wedding, with the lovely hotel front and beautiful grounds and countryside surrounding. Well Done To The Bedford Arms Hotel.

Stayed here with my husband and elderly mother in law and had a very enjoyable couple of days. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.

Had two evening meals in the restaurant, first evening just the three of us and second joined by brother in law his wife, and 8 yr old son. Every dish served was of the highest quality, seasonal produce inventively cooked and beautifully presented, everyone commented on how much they enjoyed their meal. Staff were very accommodating re my mother in law who has health issues and my nephew who wanted just a small roast dinner (not on restaurant menu), nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was also excellent and very well cooked.

Our rooms were in the main building and very comfortable, decorated in keeping with the property and clean. Only gripe was that mattress was a little uncomfortable - dipped in the middle slightly - may just have needed turning, but a small negative.

All in all a very relaxing couple of days and will definitely be visiting again.

We recently had a family meal at 'The Bedford Arms Hotel' to celebrate my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary on a recent Saturday evening.

As there was eleven of us dining, pre-orders were recommended. The menu provided included at least 10 starters, 10 main courses and plenty of desserts, and was very varied in choice. The food we received was excellent, well cooked and professionally presented. There was an extensive and detailed wine list and the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them especially Jim, the General Manager. Everyone at the Hotel made us feel truly welcome.

We stayed in the main part of the Hotel in the 'John Russell' room. The rooms are individually decorated and were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was individually prepared and was very enjoyable.

Many thanks to you all for providing us all with a night to remember!!

Room Tip: The rooms in the main Hotel are individually decorated, the ones in the annexe are more modern in st...

Five of us booked for lunch at the Bedford Arms recently. Although the gardens are pretty and the public rooms comfortable, the lunch was a disappointment. The staff seemed distracted and inattentive, and were absent from the bar much of the time. The menu was unexciting and the food, when it came, mediocre. We came away feeling underwhelmed by the whole experience, and wishing we had booked somewhere else. (I would like to point out that we did not stay overnight at the Bedford Arms so have no knowledge of this side of the hotel.)
