We were thinking to go to Coorg from long time and continuously searching for the place. And finally after recommendation from many people decided to go to Bethal Home Stay. But it took almost 4 months to follow up to get desired booking in Bethal. Rakesh is the owner of this place and resident of Bangalore. And as I read about him in other reviews he is exactly same in his behavior and the way entertaining his guests. If you are a kid he becomes mommy & Daddy... if you are young then he makes you to feel like uncles house and if you want to be felt professional he makes you to be comfortable. This was the place where I did not feel like business environment rather it was like home and passion for Rakesh to Run Bethal Home Stay.
About this place: Its good if you have your own car, and if you are travelling from bangalore, then you have opportunity to enjoy almost 10KM of forest area to reach Kutta. You have to cross Nagerhole forest also called Rajiv Gandhi National park. Try to in forest by 6:00 Am which is the opening time , and take slow drive and enjoy the nature sound and wild animals. After crossing Forest you reach Kutta, and I am sure if you are not a excellent driver then you can not drive on the hill to reach Bethal. Best is to give call to Rakesh and he will arrange parking of your car in Kutta and he can take you to Bethal in his Zeep. After reaching there its like deep forest where you can just hear the birds sound and feel Nature and Jungle. Cottages to stay are pretty decent and there is a tree house also. If you are just 2 then take tree house... you can enjoy the nature much more from there and the beautiful scenes. You have very good homely food which you want to keep on eating... and bon-fire and tasty snacks in the evening.Rakesh does takes care of Veg & Non-Veg fans:) you need not to mention any thing, you will get tasty equivalent of non-veg in veg items:p. There is Irupu fall- must visit, one paap nashini river in kerala border -Waynad and river rafting in Kutta. And last but not least the dark night at Betahl - seams to be scary but you will see some scenes and feeling that you can not capture in camera or video recording...yes it is about stars and fireflies. It will look like fairy-tail story..... and little bit of scary jungle experience if its raining in the night and you are on tree house... and finally some pretty birds comes inside your house take shelter from rain which you think something else and do not dare to open your eyes to see what it is and keep on waiting for morning when it is your first night at tree house.

Overall, Bethal is a good place to stay, must go, and Rakesh is very humble, kind and very good story telling skills and keeps you entertaining and make you feel comfortable.

The bethel homestay is a place where you can relax on top of tree house sipping a cup of hot coffee and enjoy the scenery of the herculean Brahmagiri range. The place has all the required amenities to satisfy the needs of daily life. One thing you can be free of is the idiot box and the continuous ringing of the phone. You can visit the nearby Irpu falls, Rameswaram temple, Nagarahole National Park and enjoy a good safari where you might spot a Tiger, Gaur, Deer, Mongoose, Snake, Elephant or any mammal of this habitat.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a great view then opt for the tree house.

The place is a natural and is worth visiting. It is for nature lovers and people who revel in greenery and natural abundance. It is highly recommended for bird lovers. You will feel you need a zoom lens in your camera. What makes the whole place charming is the excellent service. Rakesh, the owner of the place is very warm and welcoming. He believes in giving you a complete holiday experience. Bethel is a good place if you are a foodie. The food is very yummy and there is no dearth of variety.

Room Tip: Fitness centre is your natural trekking. There is no artificial fitness centre. There is a flowing s...

This homestay stands up well for its name with the host Rakesh taking a lot of pains to see to it that we are comfortable. The food is excellent and the quantity more than ample.

For the stay itself you have quite a number of choices starting with the tree house, the log cabins, the swiss tents and small individual tents. There is a campfire at night where Rakesh serves up a lot of veg and non-veg short eats which quite fills you up even before dinner is served. There is no electricity and all light is from the fireflies flitting about and the LED lanterns charged up during the day using solar panels.

The whole place is in the middle of nature with the city, the traffic, the pollution and the mobile network (only Airtel has a touch and go network) far far away.

There is a stream flowing just a 10 minute walk away from the campsite. The water is surprisingly cold (we visited in the middle of May - so it was summer). Its secluded and you can enjoy the most with the water reaching only ankle deep in some places and swimmable depth a bit away. Rakesh said that it would swell up a lot once the rains start (just one week away).

The nature trek within the estate is something to be believed with Salim (one of the staff) leading us with a machete in hand ( just like in the movies) to clear the saplings and the bush growth. When we first asked Salim why he needed the machete he said that you never know what you may meet on the trek and he wanted to be ready just in case a tiger or any wild animal approached us !!!. That really freaked out my daughters. But he was just joking. We saw a nest of just hatched birds still with their eyes closed. A huge rat snake which slithered away as soon as it heard us, we could only see the tail end moving away into the undergrowth.

So guys if you are going to Nagarhole and want to enjoy nature up close this is the place to be. I am absolutely sure you will never regret it. My family were still in an hangover state for a few days after reaching Bangalore. Thanks Rakesh for a memorable stay. Will be back next time for a much longer stay.

It's been six months and still coorg trip was refreshing when we (me, wife & 2yr old kid) think about our trip. If you want to give a treat to your senses, this is the place to choose. Fresh, Tasty and Sumptuous food from the small kitchen. View of the clouds passing mountains and green, green everywhere. Sounds of Birds chirping, trees nodding to the tunes and rain drizzling. And our host Rakesh is wonderful in his hospitality. He makes sure that you are comfortable till you go back, actually he called me to make sure that we reached back safely. I got this place after a week search on the net. Take my word if you want to save a week :) Have a good trip.

Room Tip: If you are going with children, opt for a tree house. It'll be a fantastic experience for couple...

This was my second visit to Bethel homestay. I was a little apprehensive to visit this place this time as i was traveling with my family. Some of them were over 55. But after returning home each and everyone thanked me several times for taking them there. As usual Rakesh entertained us with his sense of humor. The lip smacking food was to much to resist to some of the calorie conscious people. Everyone were amazed by the scenic beauty the place offered us. Looking forward to visit the place again. Thanks Rakesh.
