Description: Situated a few miles from Canterbury City centre in the small village of Stodmarsh is The Red Lion. Stodmarsh is one of the very few villages in Britain with a working farm nestled among the 28 houses which are in the village and the internationally famous nature reserve is just round the corner. Our country eating and drinking house offers a traditional and seasonal menu, a good selection of wines and real ales straight from the barrel. We have open fires in the winter and floral gardens in the summer.

Visited this charming pub during May half term. Had a lunchtime meal-for £10. Well worth it. Very generous portions and lovely atmosphere. Good selection on the menu and very welcoming staff. There is even bed and breakfast offered here. The manager showed us round and made us so welcome. The rooms are beautifully furnished and could be excellent base for exploring Canterbury and surrounding area.
There had just been a wedding at the pub and a marquee was outside. Parties and weddings can be catered for.
Stodmarsh is a quiet village good for birdwatching and rambling. We will definitely revisit this beautiful pub.

After spending a little time looking for Country Pubs on line, with Trip Advisor this morning and reading others' reviews here, we decided to take the 20 minute ride out from Margate and now thank our lucky stars that we did. The Red Lion is situated in the gorgeous little village of Stodmarsh which consists of around 20 or so cottages, a little medieval church and right next to the National Nature Reserve. The weather couldn't have been better so we sat outside in their lovely gardens.
The owners/managers (so sorry I didn't get their names) were gracious, welcoming and answered my questions (sorry I'm a tourist) with smiles.
Lunch was very very good! all fresh ingredients, put together beautifully and all 4 of us sat back finally filled to the gills and wishing we could eat more!
I'm a Brit living in the US and working my way through the South of England visiting as many country pubs as possible…this one has made it to the top of my list..great welcome, excellent food and very pretty surroundings all at a great price..you don't get much better than that…Thanks!

We didn't realise that this famous pub changed hands last November, Seem nice people, the inside is much as it was, but the outside has had a positive makeover.

We have had great sessions here before, hence our return. However on this occasion we left feeling that things had slipped a little., We went there early for a Saturday lunch its quite a way outside Canterbury and had to be back by 2pm.

First bad sign was a short measure on my pint, let this go as mistakes do happen.. However what was an absolute no-no was stale baguettes - fillings were generous and good, but its silly to "spoil the ship for a happence of tar"..

Consequently we will not be going back for some time, and will check first that the new owners have addresses these short comings.

Joined friends here for a meal. This pub is off the "beaten track" but it is well worth the journey down winding narrow roads to get there!
Fabulous food, service excellent! Will definitely go again.
I booked in advance as had seen some sample menus on twitter and was very impressed.

We recently went to this country pub for Sunday Lunch with friends who had recommended it, and we were not disappointed. I would thoroughly recommend this to everybody else now. We had a wonderful meal, all home cooked and beautifully presented. The host and hostess were really friendly and we received a warm welcome and great service throughout the meal. The menu is not extensive but the variety is completely covered for all tastes. We would definitely go back there and hope to very soon. Thank you to our hosts for a very enjoyable time.
