Always wanted to stay in a Mongolian Ger, stay with a traditional mongolian family and experience their nomadic way of life. As we were staying in Beijing on holiday, our family decided to take a 3 day tour to Inner mongolia to stay with a traditional Mongolian family. There were many large China-run tour companies offering tours to Inner Mongolia but they were run by large Chine corporations, that requires you to fly to Hohhot and stay in China-run mongolian gers run by employees who are not even authenthic mongolians and they charge you u to US$1000 a person. However, their reviews were not pleasant.
Came across this hostel which had a summer camp that was run by Munkh innermongoliatour dot com . They offered me a reasonable rate of 700rmb a person to stay at their camp and partake in all the acivities such as sand duning, horse riding, cow milking, camp fire, archery and to stay in a ger. Munkh's family took great care of us and our younger daughter and son enjoyed themselves lots. The food was traditional Mongolian and the ger were authentic gers. Munkh's mother in-law, husband and her looked after ou safety and comfort and we felt very secure and safe. The food was a great experience and the memories will last us a lifetime. As the ger camp is isolated, Munkh arranged for transport from our hotel in Beijing to Zhanglan Qi and met us in the town and brought us touring. The next day, we have a farmstay experience with the landscape similar to Southern UK and Western Australia albeit with a mongolian flavour. We did sand duning, archery in the afternoon as well as horseriding and walking along the monglian plains that seem to stretch out forever. We had a great time especially at night where Munkh's family started a campfire using cw dung and we watched the numerous stars light up the sky. The next day, the sunrise was spectacular and we enjoyed other farm activities. We then made our way back to Beijing on the third day where Munkh arranged for transport to bring us back to Beijing Airport for our flight to Xi'an. She arranged for a people mover that cost about 800rmb and the 6 hours drive was very pleasant and comfortable. We will certain use Munkh when our friends recommend a homestay experience in inner mongolia.
