My wife and I stayed here for two nights, having walked past on a few occasions on the canal whilst walking in this lovely area of Lancashire. We were allocated a very comfortable room with a rear view of the canal and sorrounding countryside; no complaints at all with the size or standard of our accommodation.
Two friends joined us for a meal on the Friday evening and, unfortunately, we were all disappointed with the very slow service in the restaurant and also the standard of the food presented which, overall, consisted of small acceptable (just) portions which we felt were expensive for the amount and quality provided. Little things, like requesting a jug of water, which was never forthcoming, was rather indicative of the standard overall. Next morning our breakfast, after an age waiting to be served, was delivered to the wrong table. I would have to say, however, that service at breakfast on our second morning was much improved.
We decided,on our second night, to eat at the nearby Stork Inn, where the food, service and ambience were immeasurably superior.
Perhaps we were unlucky with our experience as the location of The Mill makes it so well worth considering for a short break. It, maybe, needs to try and be less pretentious with its menu and concentrate on good simple food, well served.

Have stayed at many 'pet friendly' hotels in our time, but rarely one where the 2 dogs recieved as warm a welcome as this hotel. Rooms were immaculate, very stylish and comfortable, with lovely views over countryside. Food was excellent, staff were fantastic - will definatley revisit if in the area again. Really pleased with the stay...only 10 mins from the M6 just below Lancaster - perfecdt if driving to Scotland from the South.

We had booked here last minute to stay as my friends were getting married nearby and this is where they were stopping their wedding night. The room was lovely and we were looking forward to meeting at brekky at nine.We were soon met by quite an abrupt woman who was seating us for breakfast. We asked if we could sit together and we were briskly sat at our allocated tables and we sheepishly sat down as didn't want to get told off!We sat in two tables of two which was a bit of a shame! Then my friend came down for breakfast on her own as her husband wasn't well. We didn't want her in her own so joined her on a four seated table, well talk about upsetting the apple cart, hmm the lady says well ill have to shift those and do this and hmmmpph!!!Anyway we soon started to await brekky we were down at nine am, we got our breakfast at ten am!!!!Ridicoulous! When we asked the lady wasn't even apologetic!Just abrupt well everyone came down at once!If you can't cope then surely more staff should have been on!breakfast was ok just ok...no beans yet a friend had them!I said oh you have beans! He said yes I didn't want something so they said I could have beans instead!not one plate had beans on and the menu didn't even state beans existed would have been nice to know that. This place will be closed soon im sure!Shame a lovely hotel, feel free to contact me Heritage inn!

We only live 5 miles away but The Mill's weekend break offer was too good to miss and I booked it for our wedding anniversary. The food was wonderful, definitely not pub food, much better and most of the ingredients are sourced locally (I wouldn't be surprised if the lamb and bacon comes from neighbouring farms). The staff could not have been more attentive (without being intrusive). Our room was lovely. The Mill was taken over in 2012 and the changes the new owners have made include the excellent food and the beautiful decor. For walkers the canal is alongside the hotel and is great for ambling or serious walkers alike. The countryside around is the estuary of the Conder with swans on the river and canal along with many other birds. We had a double bed, I did not think to ask for a king size. In future I'd specify a king size if possible. All in all a great weekend break.

Room Tip: Only stayed once but any room would have good views of the surrounding countryside.
