“Relaxing Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

Arrived Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine. Stroll by the river and then a seat in the beer garden with a cool drink was bliss. Checked into our room which was immaculate with attention to detail. Dinner that evening was excellent, the restaurant was very busy but the service was very good - extremely attentive staff. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was delightful - beautiful views from the river lounge. We would definitely return - this time for two nights!

Great setting by the river about 30 min drive from lytham st annes and well worth the trip.
A good selection of beers and an interesting menu. I had an excellent fish pie but there was plenty of dishes to choose from.

My husband and I have travelled a modest amount through North America and Europe, and The Cartford Inn is our favourite hotel. It is beautifully situated on the banks of the River Wye, with a beautiful view of the green fields, farms and grazing cows, fresh air, gorgeous rooms, comfy beds, and a fantastic restaurant with lovely staff. While it can be a very peaceful locale, in the evening and at weekends the place comes alive with sophisticated locals going to the pub and restaurant. The Cartford Inn is a unique inn and the owners, Julie and Patrick, are delightful and make sure every need is taken care of. Our home away from home - only wish it were closer!

The setting and quality of food are both very good. The service is friendly enough if inattentive.

However, waiting an hour and a half for mains: unacceptable.

And oxtail bones in a suet pudding: not good. Even if it is "prepared by hand" (as the explanation went).

And offering "a round of coffees" is not in my view an appropriate response when the above concerns are raised.

Second time we have visited here to eat with our two small children, and we weren't disappointed. Even felt it looked nicer the second time. They are child friendly, although I think they try to keep the children away from the room with the river view but I'm ok with this as it means I don't need to stress if either play up. The food did take a bit longer than we'd have hoped, but we were able to entertain the boys by walking across the toll bridge and taking a look outside. Food is very good (perhaps just slightly expensive, namely the fish stew.), and the young staff are very polite and attentive. They were building something outside, but imagine it would be nice to sit there on a warm summers day. Would love to stay here one day (no kids in tow). I'm sure we'll be back to visit anytime of the year.

We stopped one night here on the way up to Scotland and, although the weather outside was miserable, we were warmly welcomed, made to feel comfortable and enjoyed a top quality dinner served by very friendly and helpful staff. The room was on the second floor, a good size, quirkily decorated but with a very comfortable bed. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor with no lights at all near the shaving mirror, thus making this exercise somewhat hit and miss. Otherwise, no complaints and lots of plaudits for the staff, the service and the food.

We visited the Cartford Inn with our family, as a celebration for our Golden Wedding.
Our room was beautiful with two French balconies, and stunning views of the river and beyond.. The bathroom was large and modern.
Our dinner was excellent.
We all had a memorable time.
Thankyou

Room Tip: Our room, room 8, was lovely with two French balconies, and stunning views
