I can understand the previous reviews, as there are quite a few problems with the hotel, but I have to say that it is clean (apart from the tablecloths in the breakfast room). The hotel is about 10 -15 minutes from Basse Terre in the village of St. Claude up in the hills. You need a car to get there. If coming from the airport, it is advisable to hire a car, as the cost of a taxi one way is around 150 euros if one arrives later than 8 pm... The hotel has closed its restaurant and bar, so the only food there is the breakfast which is nothing special but OK. There is nothing much in the village, 2 or 3 local restaurants and a supermarket. On Sundays, when we arrived, there is nothing open and no way to order in food from takeaways in Basse Terre. The photo on Tripadvisor showing a KFC has nothing to do with the hotel - there is no KFC in St. Claude and the building next to it is not the hotel.
The first night I stayed in a standard room at 90 euros - all have the same two single IKEA style beds which are too small for someone as tall as me. Also the windows in each room re left open to air the room between clients and therefore mosquitoes have an easy access. The second night I switched to a suite at 130 euros as these have a king-sized bed and are much more confortable, with better aircon, bigger bath and a bigger flat screen TV with 25 channels.
