I am writing this review after staying in Wheat cottage at nettlecombe farm in the last week of April. The booking was easy to make using the website and upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Josie. Our party consisted of five adults and two children (2 and 4 years old). The cottage had plenty of space and all the facilities you would expect in self catering accommodation. Outside of the cottage there was great facilities to keep the children amused with a great play area including outdoor toys and also a football pitch all in great condition. The daily highlight for the children (and me!) was joining farmer Jon on his morning animal feeding and egg collecting. Farmer Jon was very informative about all the animals and very patient allowing the children to get involved which my boys really enjoyed. They were even allowed to help bottle feed two new baby lambs which was a real highlight. I would certainly recommend this for any families with young children.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday here at Nettlecombe and equally we loved sharing our farm with you! Great to hear that you enjoyed Farmer Jon's feeding time tours as this is something we have only started offering this year and so far feedback has been great. We hope you had a good journey home and really do hope that you come back and visit Nettlecombe again in the not too distant future, best wishes Nettlecombe Farm

Booked and paid for a stay at this Farm online. Yet despite receiving a booking confirmation and them taking money was then informed they'd made a double booking! If you're booking online beware! And definitely don't book your ferry like we did until you know you're definitely booked in!

Dear Georgina,
As per our emails we have unfortunately had a rare system error to contend with this week and very sadly we were unable to accommodate you and your family this weekend. As you know we have made an immediate refund, and offered you assistance to find alternative accommodation as well as offering to refund your ferry payment if you are unable get a ferry refund or find alternative accommodation and this was dealt with in 24 hours of your online booking. We are sorry for the disappointment caused but remind you that we are a small family run working farm without huge systems or full time office staff and whilst we do not want hiccups to occur if they do we ensure we put things right as soon as possible. Best Wishes Nettlecombe Farm

Spent last week of march in the largest swallow cottage, two families, 3 toddlers and 2 babies. Very pleasant. Cottage had everything we needed. Comfortable, warm, and in sunnier weather excellent patio area overlooking kids play areas and animals. Location was good for good beaches at shanklin.
I would have given 4.5 stars if i could. We would have liked to be more involved with farm activities, feeding or even mucking out animals. I guess we perhaps could if we'd asked. Perhaps owners could provide a timetable of jobs that guests could contribute to? No wifi in swallow, which would have been nice, but whilst on holiday, not essential. Overall very happy.

Thank you so much for your review, we are delighted that you had a great time in Corner Cottage. We actually started feeding tours with Farmer Jon at Easter, this allows kids (and big kids!) to get involved with feeding, mucking out and collecting eggs etc (Monday - Fridays at 8:20am) This is new for 2014 and so far is proving very popular indeed, this will run until at least September this year. Sadly your visit was just before Easter so something that had not then started or advertised. Also re the wifi, this is a contentious subject amongst our guests!! We do get asked increasingly for it and it is indeed something we are looking into but is proving not as simple as one might think given the rural location & technicalities - however we also have regulars coming who visit who tell us that that not having wifi is one of the things they love about coming as it gets their partners away from work and kids away from games to enjoy the countryside and board games! Some people who know that they need to use wifi do bring dongles with them or visit one of the nearby facilities with wifi.. Not sure we will ever win on this one, however will keep you posted on developments ;-) Thanks once again for your review and please do come back again. Best Wishes Nettlecombe Farm

We have just returned from a week holiday to Nettlecombe Farm with our 2 daughters aged 3 & 5 years. We stayed in Robin and the accommodation was nice and spacious. The girls particularly enjoyed the two staircases and galleried landing. The highlight of the holiday had to be farmer Jon who welcomed guests to join him in the morning to feed the animals and collect eggs. He was so patient with the children, answering all their questions. Our girls still talk about him now!! Jose is always available for any queries and always has a smile on her face!
This is an ideal holiday choice for families with children who enjoy being around animals. The location makes it easy to access all parts of the island. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked for next year.

Good quality cottage, well furnished and equipped in a very quiet and secluded setting.
We booked Corner cottage with 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 2 en suites for a repeat visit with our family.
There is a new BBQ and large outside wooden table and chairs.
Parking for 2 cars is beside the property.
There are 2 good children's playgrounds set amid a range of animals pens. You are invited to help feed the animals during the morning farmer's round.
There are also 3 large fishing lakes on the farm.
There is a casual booking in system with the cottage open when you arrive.
Slight moans include the squeaky wooden floors, some mould smells in the downstairs cupboards and no wifi.
Nearby is Blackgang Chime park with a range of activities and a free return or 7 days. The new dinosaur interactive displays have just opened.
We also visited the Needles park with its famous sands, glass blowing and sweet making displays.
There are lots of opportunities to get up close with animals- Amazon world, Sandown zoo, Owl and Monkey Haven and Coleman's Farm.
There is wifi in the White Hart in Niton, Spyglass Inn Ventnor, the Met restaurant Ventnor, Bugle pub Yarmouth ( which also has great food and good service next to the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry).
Also recommended for good value family dining is the Hare and Hound pub.
Nettlecombe has a range of cottages with various bedrooms but all have the peaceful setting and family friendly style.
