“Great place.”
Reviewed 5 October 2013 via mobile

Visited here as a large group one sunday afternoon. We had just had an unveleiveable episode with food up at the Mines Hotel and found out on arrival at ' The Shore' that we had just missed the end of the lunch service. We ordered beer but were dissapointed that we had missed the food. The sunday lunches looked fabulous and excellent value for money. The Landlady came out to us and asked if we would like her to do us some chips to which we said yes. After abouy fifteen minutes out came four plates of chips two large plates of bread and butter and three small jugs of some of the finest curry sauce you will ever taste. She charged us a modest sum for what we thought was a great meal. Will always call in again as the ale brewed on the premises is top notch and we hope to next time catch the full menu to try out some of the beautiful looking grub!

“Down at heel?”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

I went in because it was listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 2014. The beer, Bosun Bitter, was excellent and so was the food that my wife, son and I ordered. The pub itself does look a bit run down inside but that didn't detract from the reception we received from the landlord or the woman that I assumed might be his wife. There were one or two locals in and they seemed friendly as did almost everybody on the Island.

“They don't like out-of-towners”
Reviewed 15 July 2013 via mobile

This little pub is on the way to Laxey beach so my friend and I stopped in for a beer. The entire place went silent for about 2 minutes as everyone stopped and stared at us, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I've been back by sheer necessity, and the same locals only vibe persists. It hurts to give them your money when they give you the skunk eye! And so different from the Mines Tavern just 5 minutes up the road where everyone is thrilled for you to be there!

“A brew pub a rarity on the island.”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

The Shore is a definite must if you like a nice pint, try the Bosun Bitter that's brewed at the pub it's a lovely pint and very moreish. The quickest way is to get off the Manx Electric at Minorca and walk down the hill to the village of Laxey. The food is good and reasonably priced. It's a very civilised pub and a pleasure to visit.

“Steak night was great”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

We were staying just across the road from here, last week. We'd been in for a drink on the Monday night and saw two themed nights advertised; curry on Tuesday and steak on Wednesday. We'd had a curry in Douglas already so decided to go for the steak night.

We were told that bookings weren't taken but to get there fairly early as it could be busy. Food was served from 6pm and we arrived around 6:15. There weren't a lot of people eating at the time but it got busier while we were there.

It was £10.45 for a plate full of steak, chips, peas, salad, onion rings and garlic breaded mushrooms. The steaks were cooked exactly as we'd ordered them - doesn't always happen in a pub in our experience - so full marks for that. The service was excellent and the food was with us reasonably quickly.

They did't have any full-sized bottles of wine, just the 187ml single sized, typical of your average pub, but it wasn't bad (I've had a lot worse!) and in the end was cheaper than a restaurant full-sized bottle of house wine.

I don't know if any other dishes were available that night but the steak platter was great.

As a P.S., we were talking to an American couple the next day and they'd had lunch here on the Thursday and also thought how good the food was.
