Having lived in Rutland all my life, I can honestly say that the food is second to none when it comes to pub food. Having said this, it is a little unfair to call it pub food, as it far exceeds this fairly basic description. Whilst trying to avoid the cliche's, it really is pub food with a natural and generally inspired twist.

Second visit to The Kings Arms in a couple of months. The experience on both occasions was pleasingly similar - friendly staff who clearly took pride in doing their jobs well. Ingredients are locally sourced, with photos of suppliers adorning the walls. The menu is varied and interesting and the cooking top drawer (without being fussy or pretentious).

Hams and fish air dried/smoked on the premises. Home made pork scratchings with a few pints of ale a great start to the evening after a day around Rutland Water.

Keep up the good work, as this is what every foodie pub should aspire to.

there aren't too many pubs were the landlady has put up a map and photos and the farmers breeding and rearing your lunch ... but they do it here at the Kings Arm. My husband said ti was the best pork he had ever eaten and was pleased to see the photos of the very happy looking curly haired pigs before they made it to the table. We had an excellent eel, horseradish and potato salad and a lovely risotto too. I would love to go back and stay too .. whaty a great find!

Visited the Kings Arms as an overnight stay during a business trip to Rutland. A terrific welcome from James, the Chef and Ali, Front of House manager. The suite (Apple) was newly refurbished in a contemporary style that we love.
Saturday dinner was unique - freshly caught Rutland Water Trout, pheasant shot by one of the chefs and local hare - cooked to perfection, served in a friendly but professional manner. As restaurateurs we understand what goes into achieving such great results - but go see for yourselves...

I've eaten here a couple of times since August and both times for Sunday lunch. There's a good, but not too extensive, selection of both starters and main courses with locally produced produce being key. Their Rutland trout starter is divine... A good selection for a carnivore and not so much for a non-meat eater, not that it bothers me but my vegetarian friends have always found something to eat!

The Kings Arms is definitely somewhere you have to book for Sunday lunch as it does get very busy. I'd hate to just turn up without having booked! Service starts very efficiently, but on the two occasions that I've eaten here it seems to taper off after the main course. The service becomes slow, almost non-existent, and it's almost impossible to order a pudding or ask for the bill (not necessarily a bad thing)!

However, the food is divine and we will definitely return once more. Maybe we'll be brave and try a different day of the week!
