“The best camp site ever!!!”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

Just returned from two nights in wing hall camp site. What a joy!! We were greeted by the elderly lady in the shop who took our money and gave us a map of the site. She showed us where we were to camp and off we went. Found our pitch with no trouble...lovely and flat and plenty of room for our tent and car. Got ourselves settled and then walked about 200 yards down the road to a fantastic pub where we had dinner. Woke about 6am to the sound of the cockerels crowing and the sun shining; bliss. Had breakfast in the on-site cafe....excellent, and good value. Spent the day exploring Rutland, pub again in evening and breakfast again on site.
I have to say that this is the best organised and most comfortable camping experience ever and I recommend it highly. Plenty of loos, lots of space and friendly people.

We will be returning!!

This place is strange. Views are lovely. Chickens ok - the fields are huge so didn't notice any mess. They do come into your awning though which could be a problem. Skips needed emptying as they were full and starting to smell. Showers ok, toilets ok as long as there are not noisy children playing in them. The problems with this site is space. The caravans are cramped together with very small plots. We only had room for the caravan and awing if you are right up against the boundary. Your car has to stay at the front of the caravan. Because of this the site seems noisy, you have no privacy. If you are unlucky enough (as we were) to be sited next to a very noisy family it could cause problems. Actually couldn't wait to get home which is very rare for us. Expensive too and problems with the electrics. Disappointing and won't go there again.

My husband and myself arrived at Wing Hall and first impression driving down the long driveway was oh this looks nice but we soon changed our minds when we arrived at the house which includes the farm shop where we had to book in. The entrance round the house was littered with old cars which was a hazzard when towing a caravan. The whole area was dirty and unwelcoming. The toilets were unuseable as they were filthy, the showers were a disgrace and you even had to put 50p in a slot to use them. We even had to pay £5 for an electric card even though we had paid £16.50 per night for our pitch. You could not call it a caravan site as it was really only a field with nothing in it. I would definately never never go there again and we only stayed two nights instead of three as I couldn't face it any more.

Just returned from Wing hall after two nights in our motorhome having paid £16.50 each night plus 50p to use the shower plus £1 for electric card had to buy two.Facilities very very basic only thing its got is the area and the views.Needs money spending on all areas to bring up to standard.Worst site we have ever stayed on so far.Could be a real gem if only they would modernise the place.May go back when we hear they've done some upgrading.

VERY disappointed. Rented out 4 of the properties - we were in the Hayloft and left after one night (had booked 2). Damp, unclean, uncomfortable, funny smell, insect infestation in bathroom... these were the main issues.
Initial liaison was great so we were really looking forward to it but then the above. Unfortunately Wing Hall weren't that bothered about the above and the fact we returned all the way back to Essex after the first night, cutting a reunion with friends short (only get to see them once a year so was really upset).
I am a really fair reviewer and have stayed in lots of types/standards of accomodation... I can deal with ultra basic but there's no excuse for poor cleanliness.
Sad to leave a negative review but we definitely won't be returning.

We stayed two nights in a very grubby and dated unit called 'Feathers'. It was extremely cold and damp and the storage heaters weren't adequate for the job. At least the cold might slow the spread of germs. When we entered we could immediately smell damp and our children spent all night coughing.
The floors and carpets in particular were filthy, so I attempted to sweep up. On looking for a broom, I found one that looked like it had been used on a building site. The shower didn't work properly and there was no bath. The frilly valance round the bed was stained and dirty. There was a good range of white electrical units - unfortunately the dishwasher didn't work at all and the fridge was faulty - so it froze all the veg at the bottom but wasn't very cold at the top.
Our friends had equally unpleasant experiences in their accomodation. The converted barn in the village seemed to not be quite so bad.

I booked with a friend 2 into wing hall with our caravans over the august bank holiday.
I really would not wish to go through the experience again!!!
The entrance is fantastic......at the top of the drive however it is jammed with cars parked, then you need to go around a U-turn between trees and dustbins to get into the caravanning field, the field was CRAMMED full of tents and caravans, we wove our way through to the allocated spot, we had pre booked so knew the plot number. I then walked back to the farm shop to book in. On the way there I saw a poster on the fence stating that if you pitch up before booking in you will be "fined" by your fees being DOUBLED! This should have sounded alarm bells and I wish we had left then, but took it as though it was "tongue in cheek" and walked on.
I paid for the pitch (2 nights in caravan with 4 adults & 2 kids - No electric or water hook-up in an uneven grass field) only £64! WOW! But it was BH weekend so everywhere is full.
About an hour later an old woman in a Jeep 4x4 turned up and asked why we were there as "no caravans had booked in" we showed her our invoice and she rudely announced we had not paid enough! Apparently £64 for 2 nights should have been £72! What a bargain!!
We had arrived at lunch time and continuously during the afternoon more and more tents and vans turned up. In the end you could hardly move, i cannot believe this was within the rules or planning regulations for this site. Thank god there was no need for an ambulance or if a fire had started.
Now we come to the best bit, the showers and toilets, disgusting is not a strong enough word to use, in addition you have to queue for the privilege, I paid the 50p to use the shower and got a cold shower for my money!
Even at 10 pm both gender toilets were still queuing to be used in the dark.
In addition, to walk back and forth to the toilets and washing area you need to walk through fields with hens wandering about, a lovely site until you realise that the grass is covered in chicken excrement.
We booked for 2 nights but left after one (as did many others judging by the emptying of the field) we begged the owners of a site nearby to squeeze us in and paid again to go there. That is how poor the place is!!
Please believe me, you don’t want to go there, if you don’t believe me, try it at your peril.
I shall be copying this to rutland coucil and all others i can find to listen.
