“Great countryside camping”
Reviewed 7 September 2011

Came across this place by chance eye drawn by the beautiful tree lined approach to the estate. We camped and I must say that things have obviously improved since earlier reviews as I found the place to be completely to our liking. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere about the place created by friendly staff and we felt quite at home for our youngsters to explore the grounds discovering the den in the woods, the big climbing tree and swing in safety while we enjoyed a beer on the lawn. The chickens are personal taste, for us they added to the country feel of the place and for one of the staff to invite our four year old to collect eggs with them in the morning I found rather endearing. It’s not a manicured campsite if that is what you are after but for us that is the charm of the place.

I'm disappointed to read the negative reviews left by unsatisfied guest. I can certainly appreciate some of the comments, however, the reality is that it's a camp site and camping is, in all it's glory,  ruffing it in a tent or caravan, if your lucky.
I have just returned from a long BH weekend that started on the Friday with my husband a two daughters, ages 7 & 8 and we had a wonderful time, especially the kids!  the atmosphere was fantastic, there were kids laughing, playing, running around, making new friends and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Hubby and I felt relaxed and more importantly, we felt our children were safe, a big plus for us.
When Saturday arrived, the campsite started to fill up. By the time we returned from our bike ride at Rutland Waters, it was full, hence overflowing bins and blocked toilets.... All part of camping experience, it's  about family and spending time outdoors for us, and it was glorious!
We found the family who run the campsite so lovely and extremely welcoming. If there was an issue, they would bend over backwards to put it right and we felt comfortable knowing we could approach any of them if we, in fact had an issues, which we didn't.  Their home was lovely, charming and I can just imagine how it looked i
So there were a few cobwebs, myhouse has some too, that's the price you pay for living in an old house,  Many thanks to Wing Hall!! We look forward to our next family camp out, next time we're bring the whole gang!

We had heard from a few different friends that Wing Hall was a relaxed, rustic campsite. We took a group of friends with us last weekend....the views are fabulous! Chickens roam freely around the site and you can enjoy a cuppa, an evening meal/glass of wine or cream teas & breakfasts at the Veranda Cafe, in the grounds of Wing Hall. The facilities are basic (great for what we needed) and they have some new toilets this season. The on site Farm shop is very well stocked & and had everything we needed for the weeknd. We will definitely be heading back & would recommend Wing Hall. We were blessed with good weather and Rutland Water was only 10 mins away! Highly recommended for those with families & for those without (they also have a 'no kids' field, at the rear of the site.)

Just had a wonderful weekend at Wing Hall campsite. Such a beautiful setting in the raw countryside surrounded by rolling hills. A great place to switch off - appreciate nature and get the kids away from the TV. Loved the shop- great local cider and plums grown by a lady from the village.
The chickens have a lot of character and made us all smile a lot.
Take cash as the card facilities were limited.
Toilets and showers were really clean.
I thought £7.00 for an adult for one night is really in expensive- there is not a lot you can get for £7.00 now days. Rutland water really close and is a great place to wear out the kids.
loved it

We booked self catering accommodation which we thought was within the grounds of wing hall to be told to drive a mile down the road to the cottage. When we opened the front door we were alarmed at the state of the place. Completely filthy. We had requested a cot and a high chair for our 1 year old baby and both were filthy. Light bulbs were missing, cobwebs were everywhere. I called wing hall to explain we weren't happy to stay in such a filthy cottage and was told we could have a refund. Luckily we managed to find beautiful and clean accommodation 1 mile down the road for exactly the same price that is tourist board approved, wing hall is not approved by the tourist board I wonder why!!

On arrival we were extremley impressed driving down the lovely country road to the main house. The reception is the farmshop counter and the two staff there couldnt have made us feel more welcome. We made our way to the pitch we had been allocated and were amazed at the views we were going to be waking up too, fantastic!
The showers were lovely and to be fair,50p is reasonable for lovely hot showerslike they were, the toilets were lovely and clean and again to be fair, they only stay as clean as the last person using them so come on campers, look after them!!

The veranda cafe/bar is lovely, although we limited our visits to it as the prices are actually very high,a fair price review needs to be taken there and things like sandwiches/breakfasts need to be priced more fairly i think but then nobody is forcing us to use the cafe/bar,after all it is a CAMP site:)

The booking process is very quick and simple,Lyndon replies very quickly and is very helpful,as is the old lady in the range rover(i call her the camp leader)

Overall this is a wonderful place and i have just booked for a whole week for the end of august, electric hook up too.

If you have never been here then i can assure you that i wouldnever write such a review unless i felt passionate enough about the place, good or bad.In this case it was excellent, and yes..there are always gripes people will have as we are all very different and have differing expectations, however if you want a great place to relax and enjoy then this is the place, and if you want the hilton, then book the hilton!!!!!!

see you soon,The camp camper:)

We had planned a family get together with Grandparents, parents of two young families and three children ( 4- 8). Good spacious level pitches(3 adjacent). Perhaps the grass could have been shorter but this was not a problem as the weather was superb and dry. Site was very busy but seemed to cope well with the numbers. Excellent on site farm shop and Verandah cafe. The new showers are excellent( lots of free hot water ) but if you are worried about privacy you might prefer the two pay (50p) showers nearby. They will eventually get round to doors and M and F areas! The children loved the freedom of the place and great climbing trees and shrubbery. Great views over the adjacent fields. Good pub a short walk away in Wing or the Horse and Jockey in Manton.
A cheerful slightly quirky place and just two things would have helped me 1. Post the shop opening hours on the door and somewhere provide a shaver point for those of us who dislike wet shaving. Will definitely return
