We left Makana earlier today and just returned home. I often read Trip Advisor comments and wanted to share the information we learned. We give Makana a fantastic review with one caveat. The caveat is that if you are the type of travelers that want to go, go, go, this (and probably most) house/villa rentals aren't a good choice.
However, there are probably no better choices if (1) you are traveling with small children, (2) several families are traveling together, and (3) you like a slow-paced do very little vacation.
Makana is a beautiful property with great staff. The chef is Kayla - assisted by Reydon - and they are talented and flexible with what to cook. The staff is led by Kayla and Devon. Devon is a smart and observant. The staff did a truly remarkable job of identifying and adapting to the needs of our specific family. The two ladies - Marlene and Juliet - who did an incredible job keeping the entire house and all clothes clean also jumped in impromptu to help with our 9-month-old so we could eat in peace. Kevin will always have whatever drink he thinks you need ready for you before you even ask. If you go, make sure you ask Henry to take you snorkeling. He's a very knowledgeable guide. On one snorkel trip, he brought back a bunch of conch fish (large shells). We got to see what they look like fresh from the sea, taste them, and take the shells home.
The house is beautiful, but what makes this a special vacation destination is the staff. They work really hard so you don't have to, and they are all very good.
