“Who runs this place?”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

On a rainy New Year's Day we decided to visit the Ropewalk to see the Lincolnshire Artists' exhibition and the assorted arts and crafts on show.

Before setting off, I checked the web site and the telephone answering service that confirmed that they were open from 10 until 4 on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

A great shame then that after a one hundred mile round trip, the clearly amateurish management of the place hadn't seen fit to bother advising potential visitors that they would not been open after all. Worst of all, we weren't the only ones inconvenienced. While we were doing our u-turn, several other cars arrived.

I sincerely hope that there is no local or central government funding being wasted on this place, it doesn't matter how good the content is if you can't see it.

Really interesting history and lots of lovely handcrafted gifts on sale. Nice little diversion after visiting the Tesco store next door!

I grew up in Barton-upon-Humber and well remember the ropery. Part of the rope walk is now a museum with free entry. I learned a lot and was pleased to see photos of people whom I remembered in childhood days.

“Worth a visit.....”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

We had never heard of this place but when visiting Tesco in the town we spotted it across the way. ( Within spitting distance of Humber Bridge ) As far as I know rope was made here and the building is understandably very long. As you walk through it you can see tools/implements that must have been used in the manufacturing process.
There is a great coffee shop with food served and some comfy seating. Apparently there is an interesting garden here as well but on the day of our visit it was cold and wet so enjoyed the cafe instead. We did not see that much of the place itself but will be going again. There are art and craft studios/exhibitions/items for sale etc. Looks like there might be music events held here also if you go the their website. Well worth a look....:-)

“Informative and Wide-Ranging”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

So many things to see at The Ropewalk - the museum and a wide range of Arts and Crafts artists then a little walk too. Very good hour or so spent passing the time away whilst broadening your horizons.
