Turned up early evening but Janet and John were out for the evening so had left the keys out for us. Room was comfortable and clean with a bed that was difficult to get out of in the morning, which would have been a terrible mistake as we would have missed breakfast which was quite superb !!
As mentioned in several reviews the shower was very disappointing, but overall the cottage is delightful in a beautiful part of the country.
We are certainly looking forward to our next visit to Wayside in September.

We spent two nights at Wayside Cottage in August 2014 and had a lovely stay.
We were welcomed by Janet and John with a pot of tea and home-made cake and shown to our comfortable room.
Breakfast was of a very high standard with local produce and home-made bread and jam.
The cottage is ideally situated for walks and activities in the New Forest.
John and Janet made us feel most welcome and have a lovely home.

There are some rather gushing reviews elsewhere in Trip Advisor but our experience was a bit average for £90 a night. We liked the location and the separate lounge was very useful travelling with a little one with an early bedtime. The room and bathroom were very tired - the bathroom in particular would benefit from redecoration. Breakfast was tasty enough with lots of homemade produce on offer. The proprietors were I felt more businesslike than friendly; at times we felt we were an inconvenience.

In summary, not somewhere I would strongly recommend.

We spent four days in July and from the moment we walked in we were made most welcome. We loved the two dogs of the house. We were welcomed with tea and cake in the garden .
Our room was very large and spotlessly clean,
The breakfasts were lovely with a wide choice every day .
Burley is a lovely place and the ponies wandered the streets every day. Plenty of nice walks in the area.
On the whole was a lovely break and the weather was perfect.
Thank you Very much.

We stayed at Wayside Cottage with friends for the first time in July. We were welcomed by Janet and John and shown to our rooms. We had the room with the Four Poster Bed which was clean and comfortable with en-suite bath. On arrival Janet provided us with tea and delicious home made Victoria sponge cake. Breakfast was excellent with home made bread, jams and honey as well as a choice of cereals/fruit and full fried breakfast. We were able to eat outside every day as the weather was hot and sunny. Great location as we could walk to various pubs for a meal. There is plenty of room for parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and certainly hope to return next year.

Back in February we booked a weekend away in July at Wayside Cottage for our wedding anniversary through Agoda. We opted for a slightly more expensive room with a four-poster bed due to it being a special occasion. The owner, Janet, phoned me up at the time and said that they don’t take American Express so would I be able to provide a different card for the £50 deposit, so I provided her with details and received an e-mail confirming the room was booked, along with the initial Agoda confirmation.

Fast-forward 5 months and when we turned up last Friday we were greeted by Janet and John’s blank faces and were dismayed to find that they had no record of our booking and had double-booked our room. After much digging through e-mails and records they realised that they hadn’t written down the booking in their diary at the time of booking in February, due to the initial deposit issue with American Express, and admitted it was entirely their fault. They were incredibly apologetic and in fairness dealt with the situation as best as they could by offering us two alternatives – they could call around other hotels in the area to see if there was any last minute availability, or alternatively we could stay in their own private spareroom for the weekend at a discounted price. We went to see the spareroom in their private area of the B&B and it was perfectly fine, but just not what we had in mind for our anniversary – no en-suite, no lock on the door, next to the owner's bedroom, sharing their bathroom and their children’s child-hood memorabilia around the room. We asked them to have a call around to see what was available elsewhere, and also looked ourselves online, but after 20 minutes of trying there looked to be nothing else around (there were a couple of weddings in the area apparently) so we accepted their spareroom, as we didn’t want to waste the whole evening trying to sort it out. Janet and John very kindly offered us a bottle of champagne which they had chilled, which we accepted for the following evening.

We went on to have a perfectly nice weekend in the New Forest – we walked to the White Buck pub on the Friday night for dinner which was excellent, we hired bikes in Burley on the Saturday and went for a long ride, followed by Thai in the evening at the Carey Manor Hotel in Brockenhurst (taxis from Burley to Brockenhurst were around £20 each way). We did, however, have a constant niggling feeling that the weekend wasn’t quite what we’d wanted it to be, and we weren’t particularly comfortable when we were at the B&B due to the room situation and the awkwardness of what had happened.

I 100% know that it was an honest mistake on Janet and John’s behalf and they genuinely did do everything they could to try and make the best out of the situation, and I’m absolutely sure that they will never let it happen again. I also believe we'd have had a lovely time at the B&B if there wasn't the issue with the booking, as it was very picturesque, with lovely breakfasts and in a great location in Burley. Unfortunately though the booking mix up left a bit of a black cloud over our weekend.

Room Tip: It's worth double-checking your booking prior to arrival

We had a lovely two night stay in a wonderful setting. The room, with its four post bed, was very comfortable and clean with en suite and a gorgeous view of the garden. Breakfast was delicious with local produce and home made bread. We will return again soon
