I really enjoyed my one night stay here with my dog Koda. The long drive up to the main entrance was magnificent and the easy parking with overflow car park allowed me to check in early and hop onto the tour bus with my dog for the day. The tour bus runs a regular timetable service and can be picked up outside the pub. Tickets must be paid in cash. You receive a map and a discount card which can be used during your stay. The hotel as a large wooded area (around the car park) and large gardens which are ideal for late night dog walking. There is a short cut through the woods into the village of Burley. It is a safer route if walking the dog as the pathways and the narrow busy roads are harder to navigate with a highly eager dog. I wanted to walk into the village on a safe pathway with the dog off the lead and this wooded route allowed me to casually walk into the village. The village is under 6 minutes away with a variety of trinkets linked to a previous resident who was a white witch. The village centres on this witch nonsense when in fact the village is beautiful in its own right. There are small independent shops selling New Forest ice creams, fridge magnets and chocolates. Everything closes around 5pm. There is free street parking further down or leave your car at the hotel. Make sure you visit the New Forest cider centre and sample their wonderful apple cider juice. The hotel has a wide open lounge area full of leather chairs. This lounge area is where the dog owners can sit and have breakfast and dinner. I am a sucker for a good deal and called directly to the hotel for the best offers. It is cheaper to stay Sunday-Thursdays. Dogs are charged at £10 a night. There were plenty of dogs in the hotel but all of the dogs were well behaved and were never any issue with the other residents or the children coming in and out of the garden. Torches and a late entrance/early morning key can be obtained from reception if you need to go out early or late as reception closes at 11pm and opens at 7am. Make sure you ask for a fan for the room as the room can become a sauna. The only problem I had here was overcharging on my booking out invoice, I was overcharged for food and items I had paid for in advance, so check your invoice very carefully. There is a small plunge pool and sauna. I felt that the dog was well catered for. I was offered scraps for his dinner and the staff were very dog friendly and made our stay fantastic. We will return.
