“Never, ever again...”
Reviewed 19 August 2010

I would never return to The Moorhill House Hotel, our room was awful (except for the bathroom which has been refurbished recently) and it stunk of stale food and grease, the carpet was covered in stains and the window would not even stay open. The restaurant was even worse, we had to wait over an hour after ordering for the "food" to be served and to be honest I wish it never had. The steaks were cold and when we asked for them to be re-done they came back (still not very warm) resembling leather. Never have I seen a medium steak look so tough. The only good thing about the meal was my salad, the chips must have been refried about three times and my mushroom tart resembled a pile of grease. The restaurant manager was overly apologetic (it seemed that he has had to say sorry to guests too many times) and we only went back for breakfast (which was not nice either and there was a supplement for a standard breakfast!?!). The staff are run off their feet doing four jobs at once and cannot really cope with it all. The only plus side I can think of is the village of Burley, which is quaint and has a really great pub. So if you ever find yourself stuck at this hotel eat at the Queen's Head in the village, it was delicious!

We enjoyed averything about this hotel except the way dinner was priced. An allowance of £21.50 was made for 3 courses and the only way this could be kept to was by having the cheapest of each course. We would rather pay a bit more and have a set menu of 3 or more choices for each course. Apart from this, the hotel is very good anf we will certainly return

Hotel not much to look at from outside, but don't be put off by this inside it has been tastefully modernized and updated.
On arrival staff were very welcoming and helpful, our room was very tastefully decorated with a large on suite bathroom. We were very impressed with the overall cleanliness of the hotel.
Being a beatiful weekend we were able to make the most of the wonderful gardens and sat outside for an early evening glass of wine.
Burley is a very quaint place and lots of friendly people, the walks around the area are wonderful.
Dinner in the hotel was excellent, the food was so well presented and tasted as good as it looked. It was nice to find out that a lot of the produce used was sourced locally. Staff in the dinning room were equally friendly and attentive to our needs without being to over the top.
We would all certainly go back again.

We stayed in a recently refurbished large family room (17) - with adequately sized bunk beds for the kids - and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, apart from the swimming pool area which was filled with a pungent excess of chlorine resulting in all of us having stinging eyes and sore throats after being in the swimming pool area (not even in the pool!) for a matter of minutes. This was a shame as it marred an otherwise excellent hotel in a superb location at reasonable family-room rates.

We’re just back from a lovely few days break at the Moorhill House Hotel in the New Forest, just outside the quaint little village of Burley.

We stayed in one of the 4 poster rooms, room 29 to be precise, and the comments we make are regarding the hotel and specifically this room.

The hotel in general is very pleasant and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed on a dinner / B&B basis for our two nights stay and the food is very nice. The restaurant has a very friendly relaxed atmosphere and the service is very friendly and attentive. The bar is quite small, but there are other lounge and patio areas where you can sit and relax.

We would recommend this hotel to people, but if it’s a hot summer, make sure you do not get room 29, which is directly above the kitchen, which has an air-conditioning unit that is continually turning itself on and off and sounds like a tractor has pulled up outside your open window, which has to be open as it is so hot. Early morning deliveries do not keep the noise down either and the kitchen staff put the rubbish out around 11:30 without a care for who’s asleep above ! The decor just needs a bit of TLC but on the main isn’t that bad and the shower unit could be better.

That said the location is excellent and is only a 10 minute walk from the village, where you can enjoy the shops and lunch at the Burley Inn pub, which we would thoroughly recommend for a pub lunch and a beer. We also tried the Queen’s Head pub, but preferred the food and the prices at the Burley Inn.

Lovely walks in the country side, stunning scenery, lovely seeing the horses and their foals at this time of year.
The staff and the location make this place, but it could be so much better.

This hotel is really at Burley, not Ringwood. It is down a half mile down a private road with immediate access to fantastic walks and soooo peaceful, just the noise of the ponies going by first thing in the morning – what more could we ask for.

My elderly parents, my dog and I have just returned from a very impressive 2 day stay at the Moorhill House Hotel. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and it is all done with a smile.

We were in rooms 6 and 8. On the whole they were fitted out to a high standard with new bathrooms, great bedding and even a tea pot for which fresh milk (not those terrible little pots) is provided from reception. The woodwork was old which was out of keeping with the rest of the room. This is an old house and the windows are small which does restrict the views.

The breakfast was excellent quality. The chef on the first night was outstanding and on the second night was good.

The value for money was good. Earlier this year we stayed at the Carey’s Manor at Brockenhurst and paid £180 for one night B&B. Here we stayed for 2 nights on half board for the same price. They give you an allowance of £21 per night for dinner and you are free to choose what ever you like. Quite possible to have 3 courses or a deluxe 2 course meal. The lamb and the duck were outstanding, and don’t even get me started on how good the asparagus with double cooked egg was. All served on white table cloths.

The pool would be fine for a childs splash around but not much else.

The whole experience left us feeling like we had experienced a great treat. I have given it 4 out of 5, but 5 out of 5 for staff and food.

An old style hotel in a beautiful location in the heart of the New Forest and a short walk from the interesting village of Burley. Bedroom may have been a bit different to the modern style but was clean, cheerful and in keeping with the rambling nature of this old country house. After spending the day wandering through the forest, seeing several herds of wild deer and forest ponies, we were treated to an evening meal of imagination and stunning quality at a very reasonable price.
