“VERY UNHELPFUL STAFF”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

We arrived at the white buck hotel hoping to book a room for the weekend.we waited at the reception for about 10 minutes and were completely ignored by a women I first thought was just another customer, then realised she was actually a staff member, she walked straight passed us and another gentleman twice and didn't even acknowledge us.We went back to the BURLEY INN that had no rooms but bent over backwards to help us,the staff there were so kind we are planning on returning for our next weekend away.

Stayed one night, enticed by a special offer that was far more attractive than the one of a dozen Southampton business hotels. Very pleasant place, lovely building and surroundings, have to admit did not make use of any meal services (dinner/breakfast) so unable to comment on those.

Whilst i understand how difficult it is to run a tight ship nowadays i only pass on my opinion when i feel it is absolutely necessary and i am afraid that despite the efforts of a charming bar maid the rest of lunchtime was like a trip to faulty towers, one young man behind the bar seen sampling something that came from the kitchen with his fingers ,i was told later this is something that is put in the cocktails. next the staff were given their sandwiches to eat in the bar in front of other diners not something the other customers want to see ,then one staff member comes out of the kitchen and kisses the barmaid ,then someone arrives with all the cutlery to dry and wrap and had no consideration for the guests still in the bar and made so much noise it was difficult to hear any conversation, not content with that he made so much noise with the coffee machine i was forced to stand up and complain .when my complaint was dealt with the room went very quiet and one of the other members of staff said 'shhh' very loudly clearly aimed at me implying that i did not have the right to complain .Sorry, your staff need some basic training and whilst i know you will be very busy in the summer i am sure you would like to keep your winter clientele . i have to add that in my experience Fullers pubs are normally run to a very high standard. the food was nothing special.

Have been here many times for lunch and sunday lunch. However since the refurb the menu had certainly changed. We went last saturday with some friends and to be frank the lunch we though was a JOKE!! For a start the crab open sandwich was one small slice of brown bread and I mean small with crab spread on it, the sald was so tiny that the wind did in fact blow it away, and as our guests commented, the tomatoes were smaller than peas!! these two "sandwiches came to over £15.00. The ladies had marmalade ham which certainly had not been anywhere near marmalade on stodgy white bread. The Brie and bacon one was utter rubbish. Sorry not often I would put a review like this but for over £28.00 You must try harder. Trendy Food doesnt mean it has to be stingy!! Great bar staff and environment. But it will take a while to get the image of the crab "open slice of bread" from my mind

We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely room (Griffin). Great location for some walking and biking and very relaxed atmosphere in the lounge / bar areas. Were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Would recommend. Believe that this is on the pricier end of the scale, but we thought it was worth it. Not a lot to do in the little villages of The New Forest, but I guess that is not what you go here for. A very relaxing few days. Breakfast was great (choice of hot food - made to order).

We decided to pop out and have a lunch somewhere on the forest. We live in the New Forest and so know lots of good places to eat but as we were heading through Burley we chose the White Buck. The hotel is in lovely grounds and looked very attractive both inside and out. We could have sat on the outside terrace which was very tempting back decided to eat indoors. A warm, friendly atmosphere with beautiful but welcoming decor.
We ordered king prawns followed by slow cooked beef for my husband and sea bream for me. Everything was delicious! The taste was to a very high standard and a huge treat as we had no idea what standard of cooking would be on offer.
Out waitress was a real sweetie. She was so accommodating and helpful and answered any questions we put to her.
Dessert was tasty too - chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding - exquisite!
Would I return and would I recommend the White Buck? yes.

Have visited the White Buck on three occasions since the refurbishment and have been very pleased with the food and service. Menu changes mean there is always plenty of choice. Lovely for a midweek lunch very relaxed. weekend is a little busy. If you have a big group ask for the private room.
