“Secluded Perfection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

We just had an amazing couple of days away at the Big Blue Backyard. What can I say that hasn't already been said ad nauseum?

The setting is simply stunning. By day it shimmers with rugged coastal beauty. Sunset gives way to a night of perfect darkness, the silence and serenity. I don't think I've slept so peacefully in ages.

The rooms are gorgeous - tastefully decked out, immaculately clean, luxurious, comfortable... basically everything you could want in a room.

Lisa and Paul are fantastic hosts. They are both friendly, helpful and great fun to chat with. They're always there when you need them, but never intrusive. And then there is their cooking. World class, homey food - no culinary fads, no showing off just incredibly tasty, well thought out meals. We had two breakfasts and two dinners there and were blown away by everything we ate. If I could drive up every day just to eat, I would.

It's hard to classify BBBY. It's much more than a B&B - it really is a home away from home on the Peninsula. I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the African Hideaway. It was beautiful, but so too were the others in their own way. Yo...

My new husband and I chose the BBB for our honeymoon escape. We both grew up in the country and have a 1yo so the secluded bush hide away was perfect. The service we had from Lisa was amazing. What a zest for life she has! We felt like we were the only ones staying there, all we could hear was the beach and the birds. The room and the surroundings were immaculately clean. The food was all amazing fresh local produce and tasted devine. Just what I needed to be treated to. Thanks again for an amazing stay and we look forward to spending many more hours relaxing in the spa in the future.

Room Tip: Bring everything you need coz you won't want to leave!

We stayed in the Bush retreat and found it to be a wonderful and very relaxing stay. We loved the secluded cabin and found that we had everything we needed in this relaxing hideaway. The 3 course dinner was AMAZING!!! And we only wished that we had booked in dinner for every night of our stay. The breakfast that arrived each morning was wonderful, fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our private outdoor spa and listening to the sounds of the ocean not too far away. Our own little private walking trail to the beach was useful for romantic and quiet walks along St Andrews beach. Thank you for an awesome weekend away! We can't wait to return in the future.

From the moment my wife and I arrived at Big Blue Backyard, we were greeted with a hearty hello and a genuine warm welcome. We stayed in the Beach Hideaway, which was presented beautifully, with an nice handcrafted touch to the furnishings. We were instantly relaxed in the secluded and soothing surrounds and enjoyed our stay immensely. You must order in and enjoy the fantastic menu on offer, it really is delicious. Lisa and Paul are the perfect hosts with an easy going nature and professionalism that is hard to top. Everyone should experience Big Blue Backyard at least once and we highly recommend you do. I booked Lisa and Paul's Big Blue Backyard as part of my husband's brithday celebrations and it couldn't have been better. We stayed in the Beach room and felt like we were the only people for miles even though there was another room behind us and the main house was only a short stroll away. We were greated with a bottle of bubbly as a gift to celebrate my husband's birthday and Lisa coulnn't have been more welcoming. Breakfast on both days was amazing and an antipasta platter I had requested for one dinner was both large and tasty. The walk through the bush to the beach and along the sand looking out to the ocean was so good we did it twice (also helped to atone for all the eating!) I wouldn't hesitate to return to this haven where you fall asleep to the sound of the distant waves. Only suggestions would be for some instructions for the DVD player (we gave up and went to bed with our books instead!) and perhaps some fabric softenenr for the towels which we found a touch "scratchy". However, these are only minor irritations and overall our experience was top class all the way!

Room Tip: Loved the beach room - classic sea colours but with touches of quirkiness we found very refreshing...

Think corrugated iron ceilings, polished cement walls, paint spattered floors, local produce, and oh so relaxed very fine dining in your very own secluded hideaway.
We booked the Secluded Celebration package in the bush hideaway for my husband's birthday. The package included a delicious 3 course candlelight dinner served to us in our hideaway, in addition to 2 glorious breakfasts featuring local produce. My husband and I both agreed that our meal prepared by the in house Chef at Big Blue Backyard far out-rivalled the expensive meal we had at the highly awarded winery during our stay.
We loved soaking in our private outdoor spa listening to the sounds of the sea and the surrounding bush.
We loved the privacy. These little hideaways are so cosy and secluded - just perfect!
We loved the uniqueness. We enjoy staying in accommodation that offers something different to all the rest and Big Blue Backyard certainly met our expectations.
Our hosts Lisa and Paul were delightful, friendly without being intrusive. One can clearly see the effort they put in to making the experience special for their guests.
We will definitely be back as we would like to experience the other hideaways. Not sure that we can wait for another reason to celebrate though!

My wife shouted this for a birthday weekend.
Brilliant design ,hidden in the bush although there are 2 other bungalows they are not to be seen or heard.
200m track leads you to beautiful and deserted St Andrew's beach.
Make sure you order dinner provided by hosts Lisa and Paul.Fantastic food and not having to leave the comfort and cosiness of our room was a bonus.
Finish off with a spa on the outdoor deck and even on a cold Winter's night it does the trick!
