“Excellent Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

Good location just 2 miles from Cromer, This hotel offers excellent service in every way for me. Rooms very clean, spacious and comfortable. Food was of very good standard with a varied choice every night. Staff very friendly approachable and cannot do enough to make your stay a good one.
Situated next to a golf course so perfect for the person who doesn't want to walk too far for a round of golf.
But overall it is a very good Hotel

We booked a superior family room ( not directly through the hotel , via a booking agent ) on arrival , the staff were friendly enough, but I did note that it said on my invoice that the booking was for a standard family room, I pointed this out , but the girl said not to worry, as there was no difference - hmmm , strange that they charge a higher rate for superior rooms directly on their website , I didn't feel I could query any further, as we had been given a good rate vie the booking agent . The room was actually quite good, with a separate area for my daughter , but it didn't have " superior" views , both windows looked onto roofs of the rest of the hotel :( . There also wasn't a bath in the "bathroom " ,just a large, but slow shower . Dinner was the main issue with our stay , nothing disastrous, but lots of niggles , my first choice not available, my daughter asked for the prawn and crab tagliatelle without chilli, but it came with chilli , only 4 prawns and no sign of crab , my chicken, although very nice , was supposed to be wrapped in bacon - no bacon , my husbands meal should have had buttered leeks- no leeks, the final problem was with my husbands pudding , which was a butter brioche , it was so difficult to cut , and when he did , it was black inside , completely burnt . Our waiter was superb, I felt really sorry for him, as he couldn't apologise enough, they gave us a 50% reduction on my daughters. Meal, and ( obviously ) didn't charge for my husbands pudding , which was something, but it really wasn't a good experience- needless to say we ate elsewhere the next night . Quite a shame really , as the hotel is in a great location .

Let's start with the positives. The rooms in the gardens are more than adequate for families, although they should change the beds around in some, so parents can be in the room with the lounge while the children sleep. The bathrooms were very good.

The golf course was very good and the 19th hole excellent.

If your staying to play golf and have the golf included in your stay you may justify the cost, although you need to play18 holes in the morning and afternoon.

Unfortunately that's where it stops. On arrival there was a lack of clarity on what was available at the hotel, IE Golf, swimming, Gym, local attractions.

Yes we had looked in line yet you expect to have a bit of an overview of the hotel when you check in.

Also the family had booked for a paid evening meal, no mention was given that children were not included.

The evening meals were average at best, very hit and miss with what was ordered. Some meals were very good, some were just awful.

Some ordered the same and the variance between what was the same dish was vast!

The biggest issue is the staff. There were plenty of them but they do not work as a team, so many mistakes, very little ownership. They need a leader and this is sadly lacking.

There were then issues with the bills. Charged for wine that we never got. Food that was not ordered by our table.

As for the toilets that serve the restaurant, let's just say they have them.

For the price of the hotel we were really disapointed. We have stayed across North Norfolk in a variety of hotels of mid to high cost but this was not worth the money spent.

The hotel needs to decide what it is and price itself accordingly.

Either be a golfing hotel for the lads or spend some money and refurb the hotel. It is such a shame as it does have potential.

Sending staff on a customer experience or the management team on a leadership course is a must.

It's not really a hotel, it's a golf club with rooms. The room we had (superior twin) had excellent views but the beds weren't comfortable, the pillows were awful and there was no hot water for a day! Not enough tea/coffee in room and plastic tumblers were not appreciated. It was spotlessly clean.

The food - dinner in restaurant on first night was good - we both had the steak. The second night was a function and mass catering (there were 60 of us) was poor. Chicken was bland, over cooked and dry. Knowing they had a function, the bar area had no staff!! Breakfast was ok, let down by overheated smelly room and no selection of pastries or decent bread, wasn't expecting supermarket sliced.

Lovely area, but wouldn't stay here again.

By no means the first time we have stayed at The Links but it will be the last.
The food at dinner was very poor indeed. The selection and quality of wines was equally poor.
The room lacked the sort of touches you might expect for example no tissues, only two tea bags. Very cheap thin plastic tumblers. The room was clean but the window catches were broken and the curtains didn't fully close. Not a problem as the weather was mild but could have been if not. Bathroom generally good but some black mould in evidence. Excellent shower.
The staff were very helpful and accommodating at all times.

We stopped here for a night whilst on a 3 day cycling trip.

Rooms perfect.
Dinner was excellent.
Breakfast - fill your boots and very tasty.

Catherine & Melanie were especially helpful, just what you want - a nice friendly face and attitude checking you in after a long day in the saddle.

There were also kind enough to let us lock our bikes in secure location.

We'll be back.

Room Tip: One of us had a garden room - That was the nicest.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night in April as a late deal due to friends visiting the area. We managed to book a "Superior Room" for £137/night room only, direct with the hotel for the same price as listed on Late Rooms at the time. Usual price was, I believe, £166/night room only!!

First impressions were not bad with the arrival experience being professionally dealt with by the polite staff. Alison deserves a mention as she was particularly good at her job. Parking was plentiful although the main entrance to the hotel could be better signposted for those unfamiliar with the hotel.

The room was spacious and appeared clean although we had to walk through a smelly sewer smell near the gym area to get there. However, after a quick look around the place (see photos), some of the "maintenance" left a lot to be desired. Bodged room repairs and broken controls on the shower.

More attention to cleaning too could be useful with the kettle and plugs being very dirty (see photos)

Also, there was NO WiFi reception in our room as it was just out of range of the Router. We asked for another room, but it was a busy weekend and were told the hotel was full. So, we stayed with it.

The bed was big and comfortable and external noise was not a problem, meaning a reasonable nights sleep.

We did book a meal in the restaurant in the evening, which was delicious! We can't remember the exact name, but we had the Dangly Pork or something and can recommend it. Dessert's were good too. All in all, the restaurant was good with a pleasant ambience and good staff.

We didn't have breakfast or use any of the facilities, so cannot comment

We left the next morning mentioning the standard of the room, to be told that the hotel had only been owned a couple of years and they had inherited a few problems. However, we feel that 2 years is long enough to sort out the issues we show in the photos. Plus the standard of repair, etc is at best poor. Someone needs to "up their game". We had already paid the bill, so the receptionist said she could not give us any discount. Hmmm...we left. This night cost us including the meal and 2 drinks in the bar just under £200 for ONE night. And that was after "price match". Hmmm......not the best value night we have spent for that sort of money.

In conclusion, the price was too much for the standard of the room, hotel or location even at this time of year. However, should the standard of repair and decoration improve then perhaps the discounted price might just be justified. Maybe we might just eat here again one day until things improve. We must add, the staff were great, very pleasant and professional.Thanks.
