“Tired exterior does not do this wonderful establishment justice”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We have been using the Gin Trap for several years, the welcome, friendliness and food is excellent. If we did not know this little gem, we would drive past it, purely on the appearance of the outside, we feel if the exterior was given a lick of paint, along with the interior, with a few hanging baskets outside, it would be so much busier, and in turn more profitable for the, as always, delightful landlord and his wife!!

I dropped in to the Gin Trap by chance yesterday, a blustery Sunday lunchtime, having not been in there for 10 years. And a very pleasant welcoming experience it was too. Good ale, and a good choice if you have the chance to try a few, and not busy with locals with their dogs relaxing by the fire.

What a pleasure to stay in a real pub with real food and real beer and real people and really dog friendly! The owners were helpful and welcoming and the staff provided good service. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was very big and wel-equipped. Beer was good (for Norfolk!) and the food was good, unpretentious and fresh. No silly pyramids, towers or smears on the plates. We will be back.

Room Tip: Room 1 was the only one we saw but it was very good.

Stayed for 2 nights with our 2 dogs whilst house hunting in the area.
Staff were the most friendly I have come across for a while, nothing was too much trouble
Room and bathroom amazing, very comfortable and slept like logs
Food was delicious, hearty cooked breakfasts set us up for the day and then lovely meals at dinner, (especially the blue cheese sauce made just for me!!)
Lookng forward to returning soon, and once moved we will certainly become regulars!
Thanks all x

After reading the great reviews on tripadvisor, we thought we would try the restaurant. My husband and I chose the braised pork with vegetables and new potatoes. We needed a microscope to find the minute pieces of pork!!! Portion size small and the overall quality was nothing special. Whole family was hugely disappointed! I even had to eat some cereals when I got home. It was massively over priced!!! I wouldn't go back there again! :(

18/06/13 This was such a let down. Great right up in Alistair Sawday. So high hopes. Beer was good. Nobody else in the pub. Poor starter out of cheap supermarket jars, and main course cod, with vegetables reheated and drowned in double cream. All for £50. What a rip off. Reading the other reviews, I wonder if I've been to the same pub? Our B&B landlord was horrified we had been to this pub, since it has a very poor local reputation. The pub only had one other couple having a drink whilst we were there, which in the middle of June on a summers evening, in North Norfolk must tell you something. Our food didn't look anything like the posted photos. Try somewhere else.
