I stayed in one of the bungalows for a night before the MV Febrina went out on a seven day dive trip around Kimbe Bay. The area is quite beautiful and the rooms were really nice. During this time, there was much rainfall and we did get quite a few mosquitoes so be sure to bring spray although the resort does provide roach killer in all the rooms.
The food is good and there is a lot of it. The staff is friendly and very accomodating; as are the other guests. Everyone is quite friendly. Joseph organised a volcano walk up Mt. Habuna which was really great. You must be fit for this as it can get very difficult. The guide tells me he often needs to turn around mid way because the guests will not make it to the top in time before dark so make sure you know your fitness and don't risk disappointment. The steam geysers and sulfur pools were spectacular. If you're fit enough I would give it a go. Some of the other guests took the less physical land tours and absolutely loved it. Highly recommended!

The dive trip on the Febrina was really nice. The rain did bring down the viz slightly but as for the diving I would say that the fishlife is very plentiful and the corals are outstanding. I suppose due to the fact that PNG doesn't get cyclones nor hordes or divers who touch, kick and stomp all over the corals, the formations and structures are allowed to grow to enormous lengths and sizes. I was quite impressed with this.
Digger and Josey are excellent local guides who can spot anything you wish and will take the time to show you if you miss it.
The boat has very comfortable cabins. I actually could nap between dives it was that comfortable. I was impressed with this as well.
The food is great. Chef always cooks up really great meals. The soups are just perfect after the dives and the mains are really great and filling.
The rest of the crew is great at keeping the rooms tidy, doing your laundry if you require, filling your tanks and sorting your gear if asked. Especially at the end of the trip, the crew cleans and dries you gear before your trip ends so you never have to worry about packing away wet and dirty gear. They definitely earn their tips believe me!
The skipper Alan is amazing. He brings us to the most amazing dive sites and it always safe and extremely competent. Also very polite even when some guests are testing his patience; I was amazed :)
Thanks to Gary and Stephane. You guys were great!
Also dealing with Cheryll in organising this trip; a more pleasant experience you could not ask for. Quick responses regarding prices, payment, services, airport pickups, drop offs, all the little peripherals of a holiday that you don't want to deal with, she makes it happen.
I had a wonderful time and would strongly recommend this trip. You'll get pristine diving and lots of it. PNG diving is really everything they say it is.

Cheers!

We try to have some extra days in case the weather turns bad but even the worst day was our last diving day and we were still able to do 3 dives as the water was so warm. The Walindi Dive team were brilliant and ensured everything was as easy as it could be and then went out of their way to enthusiastically point out the countless variety of wonders at each of the dive sites.
We were there for the diving but it was great to see the "extras" on offer for bird lovers and hikers.
We took up the offer of daily laundry and packed a little lighter! This was a brilliant service and so much nicer to have your bathers washed and dried properly.
As farmers it was lovely to see really good cattle on our way to the resort. It was also nice to find that a good variety of food included beef that was tasty and tender. Very easy to eat more than you should, just to taste all on offer!
We didn't get around to taking the planned photos of the amazing garden, trees, birds and butterflies but hopefully there are enough available to pick up the size of the trees and how well each of the bungalows is maintained inside and out.
There was a TV available in the air-conditioned library/internet/breakfast room but the weather conditions meant that the internet was intermittent, but good enough to check emails and Facebook. The power went off at 11pm so rather than watch TV it was lovely to chat with the many wonderful people also enjoying their time at Walindi.
Gary Kulisek - Dive Manager - was away on his holidays with his son Stefan but they returned for our second week which meant that we had the pleasure of sharing many stories over meals. Great diving, good food, good company and good service all make for a great holiday.
Big thanks to Gary and the dive team. We look forward to coming back.
Thanks to Max, your family and staff for taking good care of us.

My partner and I recently spent some time in PNG at the Walindi resort. We wanted to have a holiday that was a little off the beaten track to dive and snorkel. The diving and snorkelling was truly spectacular, so many fish and colourful coral....(Thanks Kaiko and team). We also took some day trips to the hot river and WWII bombers, our guide Joseph was a font of knowledge about local industry and told us some great stories about local culture. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, the meals were tasty with good variety. We loved our bungalow and the surrounding gardens. On the first morning we woke to the most amazing sunrise and my partner proposed to me....it is a moment that will stay in my memory forever. We were thrilled to be able too celebrate our engagement at Walindi and thanks to Cheyne and his wife for the complimentary bottle of bubbles. Thanks to all at Walindi Plantation resort.

Room Tip: The separate bungalows are an excellent choice. We took along some tea and coffee that we like to h...

Hi Julie and Dave,

Thank you very much for your positive review, it was a pleasure to meet you both and congratulations again on your engagement.

That is a great shot of the birdwing butterfly you uploaded, not the easiest subject to capture!

From all the staff at Walindi, thanks for visiting!

I spent a week in early November for diving. First of all, the resort kept huge trees together with its nice flower garden. The bungalow was spacious and comfortable. The manager was open-minded to let me dive with my diabetes under strict monitor (as recommended procedure). Our dive master, Lucas, was enthusiastic and had excellent eyes for pigmy seahorse. We also spared a day for bird watching and it was wonderful. The food was great especially dinner in which we met and exchanged info with other divers. Thank you for the nice experience.

My wife and I spend 12 nights at Walindi Plantation resort. We had a great stay. Our main objective of our holiday was the diving. But let start with the resort. The bungalows are situated in a wonderful garden with lots of flowers, butterflies and birds. The rooms themselves are very nice and even luxurious. Room service was perfect. Food was excellent. The bar and the swimming pool are like shown on the pictures : very attractive. The local staff is very friendly. All together a relaxing resort in attractive surroundings.

For a land tour we can really recommend the climb to the volcano. It’s a rather hard walk through real jungle with a lot of birds and butterflies.

Now the diving. The dive-center is very well run. They have three dive boats which don’t look very attractive (rather ugly in my opinion, but that’s perhaps subjective) but are in fact very comfortable and fast. The lunches on board are fantastic and the dive staff is very competent and helpful. The dives were all very interesting, and, important for us, the freedom to plan and execute your own dive.

The real highlight of our stay was two days of diving with Gary Kulisec (the manager of the dive center) on the wreck “Pactara” (rather deep dives, over 60 meter). These dives were organized in a very professional way. First we had to do a “check” dive with Gary on the “Lisa B” which is a nice wreck at a depth of about 30 meter. We used the same equipment as planned for the deep wreck. The deep dives were planned with a dive planner, computers were used as back-up. Each diver had a second independent air source filled with an oxygen mixture on demand. A deco station was installed under the boat at 5 meter with 100% oxygen tanks. Exciting diving in safe conditions !

The 4 dives we made on “Pactara” were fantastic. Not only is the wreck itself very nice but the reefs around it are absolutely fabulous with amazing fish live. A must for experienced divers ! Additionally, staying two whole days on the boat with Gary is an experience in itself. He really knows a lot about diving and tells the most amazing stories.

We would certainly like to go back to Walindi to dive with Gary.

Room Tip: All bungalows are nice !

I've always wanted to dive PNG and when the chance came, I immediately booked a place at Walindi Plantation Resort. ( Having heard and read about it, over the years of my diving adventures)

Both the resort staff and the dive crew were superb, and their efforts made this dive trip one of the most relaxing experiences.

The rooms at the resort were comfortable although I would have preferred to have air-conditioning. But a fan was OK with me. Food at the restaurant was wholesome and adequate. I especially liked their beef burger for lunch and ice-cream for dessert at dinner.

The diving , like I mentioned before was relaxed and enjoyable. With calm seas of Kimbe Bay , clear waters and a plethora of various marine life, I was in u/w photographers heaven. Lucas, who was my dive guide for most of the dives proved to be a very patient ( you have to be with photographers ) and knowledgable guide. And my dive gear was well looked after before and after the diving was done.

My only complaint was about the flies. Even the mosquitoes did not bother me as much.

All in all, a good diving holiday. So thank you all at Walindi Plantation Resort.

Room Tip: If you can get a bungalow , do it. They are much nearer to the dive centre and the main resort faci...

Dear Weng Koon V,

Thank you for your review! It is always a pleasure to hear that our staff have provided excellent service and I will let them know about your comments. Our Dive guides certainly have a natural ability to find even the smallest of creatures, which still absolutely amazes me how they can even see them!

From everybody at Walindi, thank you for visiting!

The owners and staff were fantastic and know your name by the first day. Brekkie is great and dive staff/guides find the best stuff. Even helped repair my regulator when it went down. Dinners format changed for variety and bar friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
