We spent about a week there in mid-July 2012. Frederique the manager was wonderful as was the other staff. They were very busy because the Colombian women's national soccer team was there for the Match World Cup, leading to the Olympics. We only had a chance to eat the breakfast because it was a small kitchen and couldn't accommodate more diners for the dinners. The breakfast was typical of these hotels.
What we were impressed with was the service. Our plane was constantly being delayed from London. We were first at risk of missing the last bus to Anzere. Frederique arranged for a taxi to pick us up. Then our plane was so late that we almost missed the last train out of London. However, we did catch it. This meant however that we were arriving at about 2:00 a.m. in Sion. The taxi driver was waiting for us and so was Frederique when we finally arrived at the hotel at 2:30 a.m. She paid the taxi driver for us since we didn't have time to get swiss francs. On our departure, we had to leave very early. Frederique organized a wonderful bag of sandwiches, fruit, drink, etc for us to take with us. She made a point of letting us know that we could contact her if we had any problems.
The hotel is centrally located by the gondola. Of course, there really is not much to do except hike this time of year. There are not many restaurants, but the ones we ate at were impressive--The Grenier for one. A trip to Sion is definitely worthwhile.
Last year we stayed at a another hotel close by because our daughter who is on the New Zealand national women's soccer team was staying there. However, there was not any availability this year. Luckily, this was a much better hotel.
