The White Horse
Ranked #2 of 4 Overstrand B&B and Inns
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We stayed at the White Horse nearly 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. My overwhelming feeling now is that it is run down and tired. The carpets needed a clean, the bedrooms are small, the duvet had an iron stain on it, tea and coffee thrown into a pot and put on the side, very poor TV access, no phone signal, a horrid smell on the stairs, the toilet bowl stained and the shower still wet from use. We were at the front of the hotel and had all the smoke from the outside tables drifted straight into our room.
The staff weren't very friendly the food was OK but nothing special, and at breakfast I complained that the smoked Haddock was off (it stank) the manager said he would tell the chef, and no one came back to me, or in fact said another word to me about it even on check out! 2 ladies walked in for an ad hoc breakfast and wanted cream with their coffee, the manager again said they didn't give cream with coffee! They are next door to the village shop - go and buy some if it is what your customer wants.
Throughout breakfast I heard the bar staff and the manager complaining that people were coming in to watch the football and only buying one pint and making it last all evening - at £3.60 a pint I am not surprised. I think it would be good for the owners/managers to remember why they run this hotel and to consider if they actually want the customers they obviously need, or to get out and let somebody else do it better.
We won't be going back.

We have just spent 6 nights at the White Horse Inn, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were in room 7 which we thought was excellent, a smart bedroom area with 2 steps down to a dressing area and the en-suite. The furniture was matching, the bedding smart, all in all very pleasant with a view over the garden.
The meals were superb, freshly cooked and well presented, if a little slow at busy times but worth the wait. We were able to eat in the bar, conservatory or garden with our dog. Our breakfast could also be taken in the bar. The ham and poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce was particularly good, as was the porridge!
The garden is very well maintained with a small adventure playground for children and many tables and benches.
Thank you to all for a great stay!

We returned here having visited about 3 years ago. Stayed during school half term week, the rooms were fully booked and the restaurant was also busy. Need to book a table in advance. Food was excellent, if a little pricey for a pub. Breakfast very good. Rooms fine but are probably ready for re-furbishment. Staff seemed to be a little pushed, they could have done with extra help. We stayed for 2 nights, and the room wasn't cleaned- only the towels changed that we left in the bath.Would have expected a little more. Friendly atmosphere and good location.

Stayed for two days whilst visiting the area. Room was tired and the shower had some mold, but the bed was very comfy. We stayed for an evening meal which was excellent. The breakfast had a great choice. The staff were very friendly and very helpfully. It is 2 minute walk down to the sea front. Good location for visiting the Norfolk Coast.
