“A big thank you to Clara and her team for a special Christmas!”
Reviewed 15 January 2013

My husband Kevin and I had a special time at Broome Park this Christmas. We had booked through Interval International as a 'Get Away'. We live in Virginia USA but I am a Brit with my parents living locally and we needed a comfortable place to stay for my first Christmas in the UK for 10 years and somewhere that we could invite my folks to come to as well. The lodges at Broome Park offer spacious 2 bedroom/2 bathroom accommodation with kitchen and living area. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the apartment on our arrival. It sparkled (thank you Elizabeth). My husband and I travel regularly and with Interval, often stay in self catering accommodation. I can unreservedly say the standard of accommodation was probably the best to date and accommodation in the US upholds a pretty high standard! The decor is tasteful, good lighting, the quality of linen and towels luxurious. We loved the large shower in the main bathroom. What a joy also to have a towel heater. We were surprized not to have a hair dryer provided until we found it tucked away in a drawer so every detail had been covered. Aesthetics are one thing but what really made our visit special were the people we met at Broome Park. We met Clara and Louis when we checked in, Elizabeth had left a 'card' saying she had prepared the lodge, Martin, from maintenance was out sweeping the leaves off our steps on Christmas Eve and willingly offered to provide a lift for my aged mum in his nifty golf cart should she need it to traverse the path leading to the cabin. Aluminium Turkey 'trays' to cook our birds in on Christmas Day were delivered on our doorstep by staff with smiling faces. We had housekeepers drop by at least twice during our week's stay. Nobody appeared to be dragging their feet or gave the impression of hating having to work over Christmas. We were in Cabin 14 which was at the end of the pathway where the lodges are clustered. For the older guest this might be a disadvantage but as it happened, my mother did ok but used the wheelchair provided (available on request) as back up. Parking was a bit tight with more than one car but 'overflow' parking is not inconvenient a short walk away. We enjoyed the large house and in particular, the warm welcome each time we entered. We had friends who live locally join us for an evening in the Kitchener Bar and with them had some fun with the Quiz Night laid on with Clara officiating. Everything was very relaxing and welcoming. We hope to return at some time in the future because the location works well for us and can thoroughly recommend it. We wish all at Broome Park a happy and prosperous New Year and thank you for your service and professionalism!

We stayed here a couple of weekends before Christmas. The main hall was decorated with a huge tree and garlands and had 2 roaring log fires. These will not be here for much longer as they are changing to gas fires as this is more economical. (If someone had worked out how to close the front door, the heat would not be lost all the time!!)
We stayed in one of the lodges, which has recently been refurbished. The ensuite bathroom has had the bath removed and a large shower put in its place. Do not forget to put the floor mat by the entrance to the shower, as there is no door and the water will make the floor wet. The toilet is a triumph of design over practicality as to get to the flush, you have to move the toilet lid out of the way every time! There was also no blind in the bathroom. The bed is huge and comfortable, and we had to borrow the pillows from the other bedroom otherwise if you rolled over in the night, you would roll off the pillow.
We took the bus into Canterbury from just outside the property. Much easier than taking the park and ride. The only problem was walking back to the lodges at night as only the drive leading to the property is lit and the side from the property to the main road was pitch black. This side is closer to the lodges
We didn't use the restaurant this trip, but we did have a bar meal when we first arrived and it was very nice indeed.
As usual the leisure area was extremely clean. The sauna worked well and the the swimming pool was so cold it acted as a good cool down after. I wouldn't like to stay in there too long though.
Both check in and check out were efficient and friendly and we hope to come back again later in the year.

Broome Park is a lovely welcoming golf resort just outside of Canterbury England. The golf facilities are excellent. For non golfers, it's a bit of a drive to get into town, especially without a car. Public bus runs just outside the gate & has a regular schedule. Would recommend a stay there if you 're looking to stay in the countryside.

I was not in the lodge or villas but in the mansion house itself. The studio suite was huge with a huge bath and as it was a corner room I had 2 lovely views. Short distance from Canterbury, Dover Castle, Hever Castle and many other wonderful attractions. I also met some lovely locals who invited me for tea. Will definitely return. From the most recent reviews I believe it's been redecorated because the furnishings were a bit shabby when I was there, with a wooden board as a kitchen counter. Still well worth the price and location.

We've just enjoyed a short break at Broome Park staying in one of the lodges. The lodges are well appointed and very comfortable with every luxury. The main house is elegant and well appointed. The swimming pool is modest in size but spotlessly clean. The staff are delightful, attentive and charming. On our second evening as we walked in to the bar the gentleman behind the bar remembered our drinks order. We ate in the bar rather than the restaurant and the food was superb, a 'simple' steak sandwich was turned into an elegant dish.
Our only disappointment was the weather which meant we couldn't explore the grounds.

What a fantastic place! The building is so grand and stately, and we had been slightly worried that we had only booked a studio, but no need - the room was enormous! We had a lounge area at one end, with the bedroom at the other, plus a dining area, small kitchen area and an en-suite. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and if David W. is correct in thinking that DRI may not continue the lease it would be a real shame, as we would definately go again. The only criticism I may have would be that we do like a full kitchen for self catering, but as we were warned in advance it was not a huge problem.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor in a room that overlooked the driving range - would recommend as a studo...

We have just spent a week in a one bedroom apartment in the Mansion House. I understand that these are not owned or operated by DRI and that the lease is due to expire soon, that rather shows in the presentation. Our apartment was on the second floor (third floor for american readers) and would have formed the servants quarters in the house's glory days, it was difficult to walk about without hitting your head on a beam or door lintel (I am only 5'10"), the WiFi does not reach that high in the building and there was a thick layer of grime and dead flies on the window cills. There was no non slip surface in the bath but a mat was provided when we asked. As previously noted the cooking facilities are very limited, a toaster, a kettle and a microwave but we were made aware of that at the time of booking and reminded in a phone call a few days before we arrived.

We’re sorry to read that there were aspects of your recent stay at Broome Park which caused you disappointment. As you’re aware, the Broome Park Mansion House is affiliated to Diamond Resorts – we do, however, hold our affiliates to a high standard of accommodation and we’re sorry that you have been disappointed in this regard.

Due to the layout of the Mansion House, the rooms on the second floor have lower ceilings than those on the floors below, and we’d recommend that you request a room on the ground or first floor if this is a cause for concern.

We have also noted your comments about wi-fi service at the resort. This is due to be addressed as part of the resort’s refurbishment programme over the next few years, and we feel sure that if you return once this refurbishment has been completed, you’ll appreciate the difference!

There’s no excuse for poor housekeeping, and we’re really sorry for the impression that this has given you. Please be assured that your comments have been brought to the attention of the resort’s housekeeping team.

We really hope that this hasn’t dissuaded you from returning to Broome Park, and we look forward to being of service to you again.
