“Well looked after...”
Reviewed 2 December 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the Woolpack en route to France. Very comfortable room and excellent meal in the restaurant all washed down by some very nice Sheperd Neame ales. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. Well recommended.

We arrived , in a hurry, registation was quick amd friendly . We were given a hand drawn map which got us where we wanted to go , and , more importantly, back again.
The room was perfect with a four poster bed and nicely equipped bathroom.
Did not have time to eat but it looked very nice.
Easy to find , great location , must find time to go back.
Chilam looked like a lovely village.

Room Tip: go for the four poster

Arrived fairly late on a thursday night by train. We called the inn when we couldn't get a taxi and the manageress picked us up in her car without hesitation. We were offered food despite the fact that the kitchen had shut and she rustled us up some delicious home made soup. Breakfast was wholesome with a self service buffet and a hot breakfast complete with black pudding. I asked for fried bread (not on the menu) which arrived without fuss.
Throughout our two day stay nothing was too much trouble. The 'locals' were friendly - thank you Ali for all your advise on Canterbury - and the staff appeared to genuinely enjoy their work. Congratulations to a well led team.
The restaurant offers 'proper' food cooked with care ...venison stew, local pheasant, sea-bream and fish and chips to die for.
The rooms were quaint with patchwork bedspreads. he dog was even catered for with a blanket, bowl and a can of food.
Would I go back - YES.

Room Tip: Stable block where we stayed - spacious with own garden - ideal for dogs

Mum and I plus 2 dogs stayed here for just the one night, we were located in the stable block across the road from the main pub, we spent a very comfortable night, the room was lovely with access to the garden for the dogs, the next day we were joined by my brother & his family for his birthday family meal in the restaurant, food was lovely as it was the previous night, the only thing i would say is breakfast was badly staffed with just one poor girl trying to serve everyone, but we did eventually get everything we needed, and enjoyed a lovely breakfast.

Room Tip: I would recomend the stable block especially if you have dogs or children as shared garden was a bon...

Arrived first night after restaurant had closed and were offered soup or a snack without hesitation. Ate in restaurant on our next night after a trip around Canterbury and were treated to a delicious home cooked meal. Slow braised lamb shanks to die for and venison stew with dumplings. Breakfast was good enough to last the day.
To top it all we were given a lift to ashford international as the local service was under weekend repair.
A must for anyone heading for the tunnel or a weekend getaway. We will be back.

Room Tip: Had an outside room over the road to the main building, parked outside very secure.

Accomodation was clean and pleasant but not adequately soundproofed- I could hear the guests next door to me snoring and the external doors were noisy.

Breakfast was good though I was not too happy to hear
the staff in the kitchen moaning that they had to do another scrambled eggs( for my breakfast) and using the f word. Not very professional.

Finally- and I may be being paranoid here- the person who looked like the manageress ignored me whilst being cheery and friendly to two women sitting together. Perhaps she just tends to ignore people on their own. But a word here, you never know who they might be so to err on the safe side, I would say hello to everyone. Unless you are trying to dissuade all people who come on their own in favour of big walking or cycling groups.

Setting lovely but not enough professionalism and customer service skills. I will not be recommending.

Stayed here for one night after driving through France and catching 1500 ferry. Great location our room was fine no complaints, bed and shower very clean with good fluffy towels, what more do you need.Had a meal in the restaurant which was really oldy wordly( the room not the meal) which was very good and at a reasonable price,as was the breakfast. The owners run a taxi service into Canterbury and pick up for return, which is a really good idea.We will certainly return here as we wish to see more of Canterbury

Room Tip: ask for a garden room
