My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay at Homelea. Fiona welcomed us on arrival and showed us to our beautiful room which had the real WOW factor. Fiona recommended a lovely Olde Worlde pub in the village of Chartham called The Artichoke for evening dinner and we were not disappointed.
Homelea is the ideal base for visiting Canterbury and the surrounding areas. We really had a fantastic stay. We stayed in the spacious School Room which was to a very high standard (the biggest room we have ever stayed in), the décor was lovely, the bed was so comfortable and the views from the bedroom were breath taking. Breakfast was a hearty full English breakfast which went down a treat. Would highly recommend a stay, you won't be disappointed by the welcome and the lovely touches which make such a difference. Fiona even left some freshly made scones in our room which were very well received, her hospitality is First Class. Would highly Homelea but rather than go through a booking agent, go direct and save money. Thanks Fiona for a truly memorable stay in Chilham . We'll definitely be going back to Homelea in the near future for a visit and be recommending it to our family and friends 5 ***** rating.

Room Tip: The School Room had views of the beautiful Kent countryside.

I was meant to write this some time ago however I don't want to miss the opportunity to praise this peaceful and well-managed B&B. My girlfriend and I stayed with Fiona at Homelea...rather last minute...and found it charming, tranquil and friendly. Having never been to Canterbury before and always looking for new parts of the U.K. to explore, this was a perfect oasis from a very busy and student populated town. Chilham is only two train stops and a 12 quid taxi away from central Canterbury and the cathedral. If you're ever on the look out for a piece of English and Roman history, Canterbury is difficult to beat and Homelea Bed and Breakfast will provide a comforting resting place for a most enjoyable weekend.

I did score the value as average only because I feel prices for hotels/B&Bs are inflated at the moment, however there is no doubt that Homelea is offering very competitive rates.

Room Tip: There's 3 options, each meeting various budgets and needs.

An excellent bed and breakfast very close to Canterbury. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, the room we stayed in was superb with a marvellous view over the Kent countryside. We felt very relaxed in our excellent comfortable bedroom and slept soundly. The breakfast was lovely.

Room Tip: The School Room at the back of the property is spacious and beautifully peaceful.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting Canterbury and had a really enjoyable experience :
1) Our room was probably twice the size of your typical upmarket hotel room with a bed in which we could comfortably have fitted several rugby players and still slept well due to the quality of the mattress (important to me, and to most people travelling around). Our bathroom had a balcony and a gorgeous view over the countryside. It was totally quiet at night.
2) Great breakfast made to order.
3) Location, location, location! It doesn't get any better! 10 mins into Canterbury, 20 mins to Leeds Castle. Ashford down the road and all connections possible. That's why I booked it, for ease of journey and got so much more.
Of course I've noticed that some reviewers have questioned the pricing and, although I can say with some experience that,of course, if you shop around the big chain hotels in advance you will get a brilliant deal 9/10 times, you should remember that a private business like this pricing is according to its own market, and season ,and that you also have a choice before booking. We stayed here for 2 nights following a last minute decision to visit some family. As all the hotels I usually stay at were fully booked, we settled for this rather nice looking B&B. We stayed in the School room, which was very big, with a comfortable bed and a great view. It was very clean, the owner was pleasant and helpful, and she also cooked up a very nice breakfast.
However I was torn between a score of average or very good, but settled on very good because for a B&B that's what it is. Just that we are not used to this kind of set-up where we stay in someones house and didn't feel as free as staying in a hotel. Finally it was a bit pricey, but as the owner recommended, get in touch with her directly to arrange a better price.

Room Tip: The School room was very nice and spacey with lots of light.

I thank you for posting a review and all reviews are helpful. As a b&b we aim to be relaxed with our guests in giving them freedom to come and go as they please with no time restrictions in coming in late at night apart from the fact we do ask anyone coming in late to respect that we have other guests and to keep any noise down to the minimum. We ask for arrival times not to restrict people but to give freedom to guests and ourselves. Obviously as we are a b&b and NOT a hotel we need to be here for our guests to gain access into our home.
Yes we are a little more expensive than some b&b`s however we also offer a top of the end market and provide our guests with, in our opinion, (and other guests) lovely accommodation, clean, and great facilities and all our rooms are continually being updated, whether being decorated or new facilities for our guests to enjoy. We have super views and three of our rooms have private balconies overlooking Chartham Lakes and the North Downs. In the good weather you may sit and enjoy the views in the garden or walk around the paddocks enjoying a bit of the country life. We are between Chilham & Chartham Village and 4 miles from Canterbury.

We enjoyed our stay at Homelea very much: the room was comfortable, the bathroom sizable (with a Jacuzzi) the hosts welcoming and the cooked breakfast very good.
But we have not given it as high a rating as other guests as neither my husband nor I felt it was as luxurious as had been advertised and as it was priced. The decoration was ok but the pillows and towels a bit tired, the tv tiny and there were rather a lot of instructions on what not to do, which I can understand as it is their home but a bit irritating when you feel you are being somewhat overcharged for the stay.

Dear Natasha.
I really appreciate the comments and time that has been taken to wright any review from guests.
However the pillows are not tired for the fact there are bounce pillow (non allergic pillows representing feather) and soft foam pillows so that all requirements are met for the guests, but I do appreciate your comments.

Decoration is always down to the individual and the walls are always kept spotless and maintained constantly throughout the year. The guests chose to book the Treetops room which is cheaper than our deluxe rooms (School Room and Kingfisher) however it has a new balcony overlooking the views from the rear of the house which is stunning in anyone`s eyes with patio chairs to sit and relax if the weather permits. The room has a double bed (4ft 6"). The pictures provided are truley the representation of the rooms, so that guests know exactly what they are getting when they arrive and have no surprises. From the photographs you can see that is not a huge room whilst the Kingfisher and the School Rooms are definitely over sized . We provide, in our opinion a well balanced room with added extras and all modern amenities. It has a flat screen tv with dvd player. It is represented by the photo the size of the tv! Always book direct with ourselves rather than through an agent to get the best price possible!
