Being a Professor in history Ansdore guest house was a treat - with its historical background, a beautiful open 'inglenook' fireplace and dark wooden beams throughout, yet all the facilities of the modern world - our stay was both comfortable and interesting. Although we faced traffic problems on arrival and were therefore very late (gone midnight), the husband and wife kindly arranged for us to let ourselves in and we were able to make a deserved cup of tea in our room, which was much appreciated. Breakfast was full English but when my wife (a vegetarian) asked for an alternative, the helpful hosts kindly offered cereal and scrambled eggs on toast. One evening we borrowed a torch and walked to the local pub (The Compasses, also beautiful and historical) to eat some traditional home-cooked, hearty food. The second evening we drove 3 miles to the 'Timber Batts' (also known as 'Froggies') a french restaurant housed in a beautiful public house with an open fire - really top quality food-surprised it's not Michelin starred. All in all, our weekend break at Ansdore was very enjoyable and relaxing indeed. A super break from the hectic city life.

The owners were really friendly and accommodating and quickly made us feel at home (we were lucky enough to borrow their mountain bikes to explore the countryside and local pub!!) The room and ensuite were clean and comfortable. Location was perfect for us, being fairly close to Canterbury City Centre but on the doorstep to the most beautiful countryside. A tasty breakfast and plenty of room in the dining room - ideal really. Would liked to have stayed longer, but feel that we will return in the Summer.

A piece of old England.A charming traditional house with delightful garden.Trees heavy with delicious ripe cherries. Hosts were very helpful and accomodating at short notice.Stayed here on the way to Dover and liked it so much we stayed again on our return. Kids were welcome and our hosts went out of their way to facilitate our children. The children adored the friendly pet dog and cats.

I'd thoroughly recommend - with footpaths from the doorstep and scenery that's second to none Ansdore is tucked away in the midst of the Kent countryside and represents a true 'get away from it all' break - yet with the city of Canterbury only 7 miles away.
If you are looking for a high end spec on the rooms then it may not be the place for you, but we found it clean, comfortable, good value and very welcoming with a super cooked breakfast. We'll be back again.

Upper ansdore, was a pleasant surprise.
We were loking for a small B&B that would be nice and quiet, and here we found it.
Although basic, we loved its olde world charm and seclusion, and having no T.V. was a bonus for us, as we wanted to get away from it all .
Our host were charming and offered us maps of the area for walking and cycles for hire.
breakfast was tasty and typically "English" with a great atmosphere in the oak beamed dinning room.
We loved the B&B and would definately return soon i hope.................

What a quaint little place! Steeped in history. Yes it's a bit chilly, but it is a 600 year old guest house (with lots of character)...and it is winter! The hosts were sweet and quite chatty-they clearly dote on their horses, adorable border terrier and two cats. Great countryside walking.

What a horrible experience...

The guy opening the door was the most uninviting and unfriendly person we had ever met in the hospitality industry!

The whole time we felt like intrudors, not like guests!

The room was in need of some paint and some new interior design ideas....hadn't been done for aaaaaaages!! The bathroom was horrible and small, so small that the toilet and the shower were nearly one.

Breakfast was served by the wife: another unpleasant person. She served us a small breakfast, no seconds, nothing and she was too scary to ask for anything to be honest...

The best aspects about the place were the location, the great view and the cat.

I was sorry to hear this guests remarks, as we try very hard to make everyones stay enjoyable.
Perhaps the guests should of mentioned the fact that he arrived at 1.00am in the morning , rather than the cut off time of 10pm.
I have to admit that i may not of been in my best welcome mood,,,,,, i hope anyone reading this can understand my point .......I think it was one of those occasions where we both got off on the wrong foot , and obviously the guest is trying thier best to put all blame on my wife and myself.....Have a look at the other reviews is all i can say...... come and stay and you WILL be made very welcome....
