“Fantastic B & B with stunning views of the Broads”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Neil and Josie have just taken over the Moorhen and we coudn't have asked for two nicer hosts! Nothing was too much trouble, the room we stayed in was lovely with a great view over the broads. If we go back to Horning we will certainly stay there again. We wish them both every success in their new venture!!!

Room Tip: Barton and Malthouse rooms are right on the front overlooking the Broads

We had a fantastic nights stay here in the lovely little guest house out the back, very charming on th eoutside and modern in the inside, great place to stay for Bewilderwood, the local pubs are just right and there is a little chinese takeaway in the village that serves tasty food. The breakfast at The Moorhen is perfect and so are the hosts (try their homemade jams). highly recommended and we will use them again this year.

Excellent hosts, David & Christine are very easy to deal with and very accommodating. We've used this B&B twice now for lodging our engineers when working locally, and they all have given very good feedback. We will certainly be using them again.

Nice rooms, really good ensuite.
The Moorhen is right on the Broads, local parking free and reasonably available.
Helpful owners who waited in for us so we could change before going to our do.
Breakfast billed as 4*, and it was too!

Stayed here a few months ago , Booked again for my birthday and it was very pleasant and accommodating .would highly reccommend if you are visiting Bewilderwood and of course the norfolk broads, we had a meal at the Swan Inn just along the way ,and the food was absolutely
delicious just like our previous visits

We visited long standing friends in Horning who at the time we came were unable to accommodate us in their own home so booked us into this little B & B. We had a garden room at the back which was quite spacious and nicely furnished with a good shower. However if the weather was chilly we felt the room may also be so as the walls were bare brick. After a good night's sleep we had a big traditional breakfast which set us up for the day. All in all a good experience and we would be happy to recommend for a short stay.

Reviewed 24 July 2012

My partner and I organised a last minute excursion to Norfolk and this Bed and Breakfast is well-situated to explore the Broads as well as being within a reasonable distance to the coast as well as the city of Norwich. While arranging the booking I spoke with Christine, who was incredibly helpful and personable, particularly in comparison to a number of the other establishments I had previously phoned having been met with appalling telephone manners (particularly in the case of Braydeston House and Breckland Bed and Breakfast located in Brundall).

I should note that we stayed in the exterior 'Coot Cabin' that is located in the property's back garden, mainly as this was the only thing available, both at this establishment as well as in the greater area at the time of booking. If you can get by without a television, with a wet room bathroom and bunk-beds (one of which is a double bed), this option is highly recommended. As previously mentioned, it is small cabin located in the back garden behind the Bed and Breakfast. Christine and David emphasised that it was meant as a hostile for travellers and was not luxury accommodation. I found the cabin to be nearly perfect aside from the very creaky beds. There was a kitchen area which included a dining table, cutlery, crockery, microwave, kettle, cafetiere, toaster, refrigerator, etc. Otherwise throughout the cabin, there were towels, a radio/cd-player, books, etc.

The breakfast was very good, but not outstanding, particularly considering the additional cost when staying at the Coot Cabin.

David was extremely helpful in helping us arrange a canoeing trip; apparently they somehow directly work with 'The Canoe Man' based in Wroxham.

THE GOOD:

+ Great Location; The village itself is small and cute, as well as being well situated for many Norfolk day trips.

+ Very Clean; The Coot Cabin was remarkably clean; someone even unexpectedly did our washing up (dishes) while we were out on the first day.

+ The Coot Cabin is loaded with previously mentioned amenities, the most important of which was the refrigerator.

+ Christine and David are very helpful and friendly with plenty of knowledge about the local area.

THE BAD:

- Free parking MAY be difficult to find, although there was plenty of parking at the Horning Village Hall, about a 3 minute walk around the corner.

- Communication between David and Christine: I seemed to receive a discount on the price of the Coot Cabin as well as the inclusion of breakfast in the price according to Christine while I made the booking; I assumed this was because the Coot Cabin was available and it was in their interest to have a booking. Upon arrival I was told by David that breakfast would cost £6.00 per person, which was why we opted to not eat breakfast on the second morning. I also feared that we might not receive the discount on the room that I had been told about, but on paying and checking out with Christine, the price was as we had discussed.
