“Ferry Marina Cottage 'Tealby'”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

I have been lucky to have enjoyed holidays in excellent accomodation in this country but 'Tealby' surpasses them all. A lovely riverside location and constructed to a very high standard having been fitted out in a most tasteful manner. Others must share my view in that when seeking to re-book for next year all months from mid June to mid September were taken! The staff of Ferry Marina were as ever helpful, cheerful and professional in their approach which added to the holiday experience.

This is our 3rd visit to Horning Ferry Marina, I spent holidays in Horning as a child with my family, and we holiday here twice a year, loved it so much we have moved here! The village has so much to offer its just beautiful! Ferry Marina is the place to go, we are a family of four, we stayed in Poppy and Orchid Lodge, we have also stayed in Kingfisher all are cosy clean and comfortable, the staff are so helpful. The view from all the lodges are just awesome if you like boats and water. The local fish and chip shop brilliant, so too is the local Chinese takeaway and there is an indian in Wroxham who delivers, the local fish restaurant is amazing too. The Ferry Inn pub is 2 minutes walk away and offers a lush carvery every day, we recommend this too. You can hire day boats from the marina, the local deli in the village is so worth a visit, just try it you wont want to go anywhere else have fun!!

Room Tip: All rooms in the properties are private that back on to the water.

Loved our stay in Marina Vista at Ferry Marina in Horning. Brilliant Family holiday, helpful staff, high standard of accommodation - lovely vies and peaceful. Harry the Heron visited us on numerous occassions and the fishing was fun too.

Will definately see about booking again! :-)

Tealby (cottage name) is the most fabulous cottage we have ever stopped in. Right on the waters edge with lovely outdoor eating and sitting areas. The cottage was immaculately presented and we have already booked for next year. When we booked we hoped it would meet with our expectations, when we arrived it more than met our expectations.

Fabulous !

The accommodation is very spacious and a great place for up to 8 people to have a fantastic holiday - a big open plan living room and dining area, bedroom privacy, lots of loos and bathrooms and a large well equipped kitchen to cater for the larger group.

Parking is no problem, we could have parked a couple of buses outside the cottage within its own grounds had we wished to!

From booking with the ladies in the office to checking in / out - professional, helpful and cheerful, nothing was too much of a problem.

We also rented a day boat for 2 days and again this was easy to do, just a quick phone call or nip in the office, had a great picnic on the Broads with friends and family.

The village centre is 3 minutes walk. Newsagents, gift shops and convenience stores, not forgetting the many restaurants and pubs. Wroxham for bigger shopping is about 8 minutes.

We didn't get to use the swimming pool at the marina itself, but it looked great for kids and adults and had a viewing area for those parents not wanting to swim - the cafe was also overlooking.

Can't wait to return.

The main poiint to make is that we had a fantastic holiday in Salhouse Quay, ferry marina.
There is a lot to do, albeit at a leisurely pace around the Broads, and this accommodation is a great base to do it, in a lovely setting.

The best way to think of the house itself is as a kind of "boat that doesn't float" - that may help you in appreciating its quirks as charms.

What you get is 3 bedrooms, each ensuite over 3 floors, with a decent-sized living area in the middle. This includes a small but excellent balcony. Excitingly the ground floor opens onto a private dock of your very own ! You can sit on the dock (and fish if so inclined), or moor a boat there for water-based adventures.

What you don't get is any kind of luxury ;

- the kitchen has the fewest utensils, and of the lowest quality of any s/c I've stayed in, though we had plenty of good meals cooked up using ingredients from the famour Roys of Wroxham !

- the cooker was fine though of a vintage that meant the markers had come off the electric rings on the hob so 'trial & error' was needed to establish the correct orientation for H vs L - 5 mins with a permanent marker or a small instruction leaflet could fix this.

- none of the en-suites have soap provided - I don't think I've ever seen this before

- beds were fine but hardly the most luxurious you will ever rest on - didn't stop me getting some really good zzzs in. (To show you the lack of attention to detail; the duvets provided are all 14 tog winter ones, fine for most of the year in the UK, but hardly ideal in the few decent weeks of mid-20s heat of Summer 2013.

- other people have said the properties were 'spotless' etc, and while there is a decent standard of cleanliness, at least in our property (Salhouse Quay), I think spotless would be going it some, if you were to look under beds, sofas etc. Again, in a quirky way , there is no broom provided for the kitchen/living area; apparently you are expected to go get the vacuum cleaner (stored on the ground floor !) should you want to clean up after a meal etc. Of course what this means is that you don't, but ultimately this is a holiday, so who wants to be doing with cleaning ?

If all these quibbles make it sound like this isn't a good place, then I've mislead you - this wasa very decent holiday base for us, the setting is great and I'm sure for most people, with the right expectations it can be be the same.

Room Tip: we stayed at Salhouse Quay, one of 4 rental properties at the quieter end of the marina. These have...

We arrived at Horning Ferry Marina in plenty of time for check in at 2pm.however our cruiser Crystal Emblem was not ready...in fact we couldn't board until after 3pm. The boat was spotless and very comfy... we had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The handover was thorough but at the time it felt a tiny bit rushed.

The Broads is a beautiful place to explore, peaceful & wonderfully relaxing... even the dog was chilled !!! Recommend this to anyone who needs to unwind.
