“Lovely Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

We met some friends and their baby there for lunch this Sunday. Food was great and staff were really friendly. They were a little understaffed so service was slow and we had to ask twice a few times. Having said that the owner came over when we sat down to explain that it was much busier than he had expected and so he only had one waitress on. Obviously good service would have been better but it was well handled and didn't affect our enjoyment. Food was really delicious. Real gourmet pub fare. It was also very reasonable priced. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

Just returned from a weekend away at the Craven Arms and will definately be going back. We were a group of 5, with 2 of us doing the yorkshire 3 peaks challenge. We had an early 5am breakfast arranged for us, which was very well accepted and was nice they went that extra mile to be helpful and accomodating. We ate in the restaurants both nights of our stay and the food was exceptional (although there may not be any raspberry creme brulee left now as this was a hit with everyone !). I can't recommend the Craven Arms enough, the staff were fantastic, friendly and so helpful. The rooms were very confortable and the whole weekend so enjoyable. In the future if there is "room at the inn so to speak" we will never stay anywhere else. Although I would imagine it will be harder and harder to get a room as word dpreads about this little gem.

Stayed at the Craven Arms recently whilst undertaking the 'way of the roses' cycle ride with a group of friends . Not being a regular cyclist I was knackered after tackling 40 odd miles of pretty hilly cycling. The welcome we got from the proprietress was fabulous - secure lock up for the bikes was provided, a generous welcome into the bar and remarkable tolerance as 15 idiots tried to complete the check in process and confirm the orders for the evening meal.
The rooms were very clean with modern facilities, after a relaxing shower and freshen up we reconvened in the bar and enjoyed some excellent beer from local breweries. The evening meal was of an extremely high standard and served by friendly and attentive staff. I particularly enjoyed the cheese board and was impressed by the waitress knowledge of the local cheeses.
After a very comfortable night the breakfast the following morning was off a similarly high standard - perfectly cooked poached eggs a real treat.
Overall I was so impressed with the Craven Arms that I would have no hesitation in recommending it most highly. The quality of the service, facilities and food was a lot higher than a lot of 4 star hotels I have stayed in. I believe the hotel has not been opened long. The owners really deserve to succeed and the location of the hotel makes for a superb stay for cyclists, walkers or any holidaymakers enjoying the area.

15 of us spent a night here. Nick and the team made us very welcome. Room were very good. Everywhere very clean etc. Food (both eve and breakfast) was excellent and good value. Beer was great. Bikes were safe, and I believe some new kit is coming to make them even safer!

But dont for one minute think this is a cyclists only location...far from it. Lots of space to spread out, dining room was very large and everyone got on great that was staying there. Lots of parking as well.

We cannot sing the praises of this hotel enough. The new propriertors who had been in less than a week were not only friendly and helpful throughout our stay, but went above and beyond anywhere we've stayed before. We had a lovely meal on our first night, with all local produce used, and boy could you tell, it was delicious, and they are undoubtedly the best sausages I have ever tasted, which I also had at our last breakfast at the hotel. Before we went out at the crack of dawn to do a charity walk, we found a lovely table set up for us to have cereal, pastries and fresh orange juice for our breakfast. After being out for over 13 hours, and returning exhausted and after the restaurant had closed, a tasty sandwich was made along with a couple of drinks which were heaven sent and delicious. The room was spotless, and had everything we needed for a great stay, including the most comfortable bed with quality pillows, with spares if we needed them. The full cooked breakfast was a must, with another helping of the delicious sausages, with local bacon and all the trimmings. I could go on and on praising the Craven Arms, but will save that for my next stay, as this is one place we definitely will be going back to, though after this review we may be hard pressed to secure a room. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Room Tip: We had a great room at the back of the hotel, but I suspect they are all equally lovely.

We stopped off here to eat on our way back from the Ingelton Waterfalls Trail. The minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome, especially the children. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. Any queries we had about the food were answered quickly and checked if necessary. Nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend a visit.

I have eaten at the Craven Arms on numerous occasions. I am somewhat biased, the owner is an Organic livestock farmer, (like myself), and it is great to see local stock and produce being used in their own kitchen. Debs his sister is a great host and an integral part of the operation.
What a refreshing change not to be offered the same old fare that is served in 90% of pubs and restaurants nationwide.
You would not be wary of taking anyone here, however pretentious, to sample Dales food at it's best.
As I previously stated, in the face of the national chains, DESERVES TO DO WELL!
