There are some issues with this hotel which are alluded to in other reviews. Yes - the restaurant and bar areas are nice, but the bedroom was basic. The room we stayed in had high windows, was dark, the lighting was poor and cleaning had not been done well over quite a period of time. There were many insects in the room and the majority were dead. The food in the restaurant, including breakfast was good, but breakfast is not served until 8.30. The hotel is located by a busy road.

Thank you for your positive feed back on the food.
We would though like to clarify your report-
1/ All rooms have Hot beverage trays with complimentary still & sparkling water.
2/ All rooms are en-suite again with complimentary toiletries.
3/ All bathrooms have underfloor heating.
4/ The beds& bedding is of the highest quality.
5/ There is free Wi-Fi through out the property.
6/ A full breakfast is offered from 8:30-9:30 with early breakfasts available on request. Or complimentary packed breakfasts.
7/ There is a dedicated residents lounge with a large selection of books and Freeview TV.
8/ All rooms have Freeview TV & Radio.
9/ All rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels offered.
10/ All rooms have original art works by a renown local artist in them.

Any insects in the room were from opening your window and having your light on, unfortunately we do not have insect nets.
As for the windows being high , the rooms are in an old barn conversion and have character! If you had looked there was also a slit window in your room from when it was a barn.

We feel your review was not fair as the rooms are far from Basic.
We doubt you can find better rooms for the same price you paid for your room with us but please enjoy your quest.

We stayed here as a stopover on our way back to Scotland. Our 2 black labs were made welcome and we had a nice large room at the back of the hotel. The real ales available were very welcome and in good nick. The meal which followed gave good choice and quality.

Breakfast was well up to the standard of the night before so we left in good spirits and would certainly return.

Room Tip: room at the back preferrable

I stayed here with a group of friends after a walking trip. I was staying in a family room with a "put up" bed to act as a third bed.
For three of us to stay in this room was £25 each and superb value for money.
The room was clean and tidy.
The only downsides for me was the room was very hot. I could open the window but unfortunately the hotel faces out onto a main A road which was very very noisy. A fan maybe an option especially in the summer months.
Because of the noise from the road I didnt sleep well at all. The mattress on the double bed was also very uncomfortable and my back was aching constantly through out the night. I would also suggest a lock on the bathroom door...
The meal in the resteraunt was wonderful and very reasonable in price.
The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and the place did have a very homely feel.
The only reason I am marking as a 3 star is because I did not sleep well but for £25 per night including breakfast this is great value for money.
The breakfast had options of full english and also kippers which is not something you find in many establishments and it made a nice change.

We called in at the Craven's Arms as a last minute decision. We could not have been treated better. The effort Nick went to (even on a busy night that it was) was outstanding. The room was impeccable and the cleanest we stayed in on our entire trip (even compared to some of the high end hotels in capital cities). We also had dinner and breakfast there and the food was brilliant! If we didn't live on the other side of the world- we'd be regulars to The Craven's Arms!

We stayed at the Craven Arms for 5 nights, everything was perfect. The room was spotlessly clean, the refreshment tray was replenished every day, Underfloor heating in the bathroom will be very welcome in the colder months. Breakfast really was fantastic, cooked freshly to order every morning with a good choice of cereals etc too. Dinner was excellent, so much so that friends who were staying 40 minutes away in Grassington joined us for dinner every evening in the Craven Arms! Not only does the food taste amazing, it is beautifully presented and fresh local produce used. The Beef Wellington is brilliant, the Trio of Pork, Steak sandwich........well everything is fantastic and the desserts..... seriously yummy! Everything was beautiful. Nick, Becky and staff made us so welcome and we even got to cuddle Penny, The Craven Arms St Bernard :) We are looking forward to staying again, just hope you can fit us in! Lovely comfy sofas and chairs in the bar perfect to relax and unwind with a drink while reading the paper or a book. Thank you again for a really lovely stay Lynn and Lester xxx

Stayed at The Craven Arms for a wedding that we went to in Settle. We were made very welcome when we arrived at the hotel and made use of the lovely sitting area where newspapers and magazines are provided.
Room was really comfortable and spacious with good facilities.
The full English the next day was delicious. We didn't have an evening meal there but wish we had of done as that too looked great.
Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that our key to get in to the hotel at night didn't work so we had to wake the owner up to let us in, however he was very apologetic about it the next day over breakfast, really nice guy.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here just after the new owners took over and meant to write a review then. Our stay was great. The food in the restaurant was good and the staff were really friendly and helpful, if we were to go back to Yorkshire I'd definitely stay here again.
