My wife and I booked this apartment as part of a 3 week driving tour of Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Switzerland. We had initially intended to stay 4 nights, but the apartment was so fantastic and so well located that we ended up staying an extra night.
The first thing I would really stress is that to be able to take best advantage of this apartment you really should have a car with you. It is fantastically well located for anyone (like us) who wants to be able to drive each day to go to the vast number of attractive areas nearby.
The owner (Roland) was incredibly friendly and went out of his way to accommodate us and ensure we were as happy and comfortable as possible. The apartment itself is situated in a block of several holiday homes, but has good parking on-site.
The apartment itself is the upper floor of two, with a second apartment also used for holiday rentals below. During our stay a family of 6 were in the apartment below and we could not hear them at all.
The apartment itself is beautifully appointed with modern and very clean decoration. The owner has clearly put a lot of love and effort into this accommodation and it shows.
The master bedroom is incredibly spacious, with a very comfortable bed (that has electric positioning for the head and feet). There is substantial storage space and a lot of room to move. The room also has a desk and a full balcony with table and chairs, looking out into the woods. The room also has a 32" flatscreen TV facing the bed.
There is a large, comfortable lounge area, with a huge sofa set that could comfortably fit 5-6 people. The room has a 46" Flatscreen TV, with a DVD/bluray player. The owner has also left a large library of films, most of which have the option for audio in German or English.
The kitchen is HUGE and includes a large dining table, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, microwave and oven. There is also a massive selection of plates, cups, glasses and utensils for guests' use.
There is a single bathroom on site that is, again, very nicely decorated and very modern. It has a bath with a full shower, which has good water pressure.
The apartment has dimmable lighting in every room except the kitchen, each controlled with its own remote control.
The apartment also features what my wife and I called the "supermarket cupboard". The owner has provided a small pantry of goods available to purchase by guests. The selection is very comprehensive, from Chocolate bars and many different bottles and cans of drinks through to tinned goods and pasta etc. Much like a hotel minibar the guests fill in a sheet of what they take and pay for it all at the end of the stay. Unlike a hotel minibar, the prices are no more than you would pay at the local supermarkets. This selection has not been provided to make money for the owner, but merely for the convenience of the guests, and is a very nice addition.
On top of this cupboard was also a large array of leaflets for many local attractions and locations.
NB/ As there were only 2 of us staying we only had access to one bedroom (the others were locked, not rented separately, so we still had full exclusive use of the apartment). However we did have a quick look at the other rooms and they were all equally nice and well decorated.
The apartment is located right at the end of the village of Moerlenbach is Hesse. It is an easy walk into the small, sleepy village, and less than 10 mins drive to a number of larger towns nearby for restaurants and shops. There are two local supermarkets about 10 mins drive away.
The apartment almost backs onto the woods, and there are a number of lovely walking trails that you can take through the woods.
With a car, the apartment is only an Hour or so away from an innumerable number of attractions and beautiful places to visit.
During our stay we managed to visit:
- Heidelberg (the city and the Castle)
- Speyer (The town itself as well as the Cathedral and the Technik Museum)
- Stuttgart (Porsche museum and Factory)
- Rüdesheim and Assmannshausen
and many more.
The Owner (Roland) was easy to contact, fast to respond and eager to help. Unfortunately my wife and I have only very weak German, but he did his best to communicate with us (in writing, due to the language barrier). He also gave us the number of a friend who spoke very good English, in case we had any emergency that required quicker or more detailed response.
We had a wonderful time in this apartment and dearly hope to be able to return again some day.
