“Great room excellent breakfast”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Although we are golf club members we had never been in the hotel but we were at an event and decided at the last minute to book a room rather than a taxi home and the only one left was the Wolverton Suite!
Lovely room, massive bed!
The staff were lovely, very efficient and friendly, breakfast was really good, with great selection. Good quality sausages, bacon etc, plenty of fresh toast, eggs cooked as guests wanted them , not left on hot plate as many other hotels.
Good view of 11th green and 12th tee from the restaurant!
Given the cost of taxis we would definitely stay again when attending an evening function!

Room Tip: As this is a new hotel and the surrounding area is quiet so I would think all rooms would be equall...

Welcoming receptionists. EXCELLENT modern, clean, spacious rooms! Lovely location set within the beautiful golf course. Clubhouse comfortable which is a short walk from the hotel which is fine on summer evenings, not so sure in the middle of winter? Ample parking. What really let it down and was so very disappointing was the breakfast and the young staff working that shift. The staff were very polite and there was plenty of them, but they just weren't productive and needed direction. The buffet breakfast was not stocked. We had to ask for everything! I ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. I have never seen such pale, watery scrambled eggs!! and toast....what toast!! Such a shame as the food and young untrained staff have really let it down. BUT it is great if you just need to put your head down for a night!!

Me & my partner stayed here on the 26th of July for one night just as a last minute decision. Hotel was lovely set on a golf course which was beautiful. The receptionist was very welcoming and bubbly & the room was immaculate, very modern and cosy.

The only fault was the service we received in the clubhouse and at breakfast.
Staff member James was absolutely brilliant even-though he was rushed off his feet as their was a function going on downstairs, he remained professional and couldn't do enough for anyone. I did feel sorry for him as the other member of staff behind the bar didn't seem to have a clue what she was doing.
I am not sure if she has had full training as she was huffing and came across very incompetent and stressed when asked to serve us.
We were going to order a bottle of rose but she could not find it and was confused when I then asked for a disaranno & coke. We then began a queue as she was taking a while. I decided to wait for James to come back from serving food to customers on the tables to order our food.
Also at breakfast we arrived at 9:50am and there were no free tables as they were not cleared. We had to wait for a full English as it had all gone and when it came out it was staggered, so we kept having to go up every few minutes to see what was brought out.

Other than these incidents which can easily be resolved with more staff training we enjoyed our last minute getaway retreat.
Once achieved this hotel will definitely deserve a 5 star on here!

We came to Sandford Springs for a golf day for my brothers stag do. Sue in the golf shop was fantastic! Everything we needed was quickly and professionally arranged. We had breakfast and lunch in the Kingsclere Bar and the food was well timed and very nice. A big thank you to the pro shop guys who changed our tee time in the afternoon as we were running a little behind. Would recommend Sandford Springs to everyone. Really had an amazing day, thank you all so much. We will be back!

Shiny new hotel means that everything sparkles. Rooms are a decent size and well appointed. They are still waiting on some landscaping so the view out of your bedroom window may not be that great. The pain of this place is that the bar is in the clubhouse which is 400m away.

The restaurant food is just OK, of course to eat elsewhere means a drive, however the excellent Wellington Arms is only 10 mins away in Baughurst.

A Gym would be good.

Stayed in the hotel last weekend. Receptionist was warm and welcoming. Had superior room. In any four star rated hotel I would expect good lighting over or at side of dressing table - none available here. Staff serving breakfast had been working previous night in club and were tired. Everything we wanted, we had to ask for. Training for staff urgently required. They were willing but lack of experience showed.
Previous comment by Manager - 'Breakfast available in club house', in my opinion not helpful! If people are paying to stay in any hotel, they expect to be able to eat their breakfast there, I would have thought this was a basic?
As previous comments advise, sausages were awful, I would not buy from this butcher nor would I stay here again.
Very disappointing as we were actually considering this location for a function for a large number of guests..

I am saddened to read your recent stay with us was so disappointing and I sorry that we fell short of your expectations.
The breakfast experience was obviously an issue on that particular day and this has now been fully addressed, with the relevant changes made.
Mistakes were made, which have resulted in us under performing on that particular morning and I trust we won't have a similar issue again in the future.
We will of course learn from our mistake.

It is however, very surprising to read that you would never stay with us again and of course, I am very sad you feel that way.
It would have been nice to have had the opportunity to discuss your concerns whilst you were staying with us and I thank you for taking the time to write your comments.

Pros.
Beautiful hotel everything, as you would expect from a new hotel, is clean and well maintained. The reception staff are well mannered and courteous. the rooms well appointed and of a good size. Air conditioning is quiet and efficient. The super king bed we had was as comfortable as anything I've slept in.
Cons
The dining area is far too small for the amount of guests the hotel can sleep. The food served at breakfast was poor for a 4 star hotel, the locally sourced sausages were very tough the black pudding dry, beans were lukewarm at best and the scrambled eggs inedible. Two attempts were made to get the bacon cooked sufficiently well. Toast was of the cardboard variety.
Dining room staff were polite yet seemed unable to keep the breakfast buffet table stocked with fresh food or cater to the tea and coffee needs of the diners despite it being relatively quiet when we ate.
In summary: location brilliant, decor clean and fresh, room beautiful. Waiting staff require more training, kitchen staff poor, food poor.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are worth paying extra for.

Thank you for your kind words about the hotel.
There are still landscaping projects to be completed and these should be finished during the summer, which see the resort presenting even better.
In response to your comments regarding breakfast, please accept my apologies for falling short of your expectations during your visit.
We do have the facilities to cater for a full hotel (please see previous review) and we do normally manage this in an acceptable manner.
We did have some personal challenges on that particular day and these have now been addressed.
I do hope this experience has put you off returning and I do hope you return again in the future.

Kind regards
Jeff
