Imagine....
A beautiful summers evening,
An attractive country gastro pub,
We arrive early for an unexpected evening out,
We decide on the most expensive item on the menu,
New bottle steak - a local farm specialising in organic meat.

The reality......
A sour faced waitress,
Flies,
And a £20 steak that was only half edible,
And,
A lack of concern about leaving half the food served.

We were lucky enough to stay at the Fox as our son chose it as the venue for his 30th birthday party.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful; the food provided for the party was probably the best buffet style spread I can remember having; the room was of a high standard of decor and very comfortable.
The pub does not serve full breakfast, but during the evening a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, fresh milk in a thermos flask, and croissants were left in our room for the morning. This seems such a simple but clever idea - I'm surprised nowhere else has ever thought of it! I was also very impressed that the tea and coffee facilities in the room included a cafetiere and pot of fresh ground coffee. A detail which I have not seen before and much appreciated!
I would love to visit again for dinner one day.

Stayed here on a couple of occasions while visiting relatives nearby, most recently in December 2011. The Fox does a good job of combining village country pub with restaurant. There's a lively public bar, a pleasant lounge bar with open fire and a largish restaurant area opening onto a patio. There's a good choice of food ranging from basic pub fare (ham, egg and chips) through to gastro-pub type food. Locally sourced steaks from nearby Newbottle Farm were particularly tempting. The rooms are built into an old barn opposite and contain interesting original features such as old fireplaces and wooden beams. They're small but well maintained and adequate for a night or two. Walls are thin, as mentioned in previous postings. The included hamper breakfast contained per person: croissant, carton of orange, milk, cereals, fruit. Again, adequate - for the price. Not sure if a full English is available as an extra - best to check. In summary, a good pub but you might want to think about an extra night cap before retiring to bed.

Room Tip: Choose an end room to reduce the chance of being disturbed by your neighbours.

Did not open until 6pm which can be a problem for checking in if you arrive early.

The room was very small but Clean. Not really a room you would want to stay more than one night in.
The Bar and Restaurant are excellent and the service was superb.
The Starters were something to shout about. They were great.
We had Steak as our Main course and one was fine but the other was full of Gristle and Fat which we feel sure should have been spotted by the Butcher and even more so by the person cooking it. A shame as this spoilt a good eating experience.
The service was excellent which was all down really to Charlotte who seemed to have her finger on the button. This is not to say the other staff were poor but Charlotte stood out because she did not seem to stop working.
A shame she is moving on but we do wish her well in her career.

Overall a pleasant place to stay but one night is enough

Within 10 minutes of arriving the guests next came in and out went the peace and quiet but the fun and games literally started in the early hours of the morning when they came back and decided on a loud romantic encounter and we thought maybe they had come into our room by mistake! The breakfast hamper was a joke, stafff indifferent to complaints. We wont be returning.
