“Hidden gem, just what I needed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2010

I found this place by accident via a well-known search engine. I needed a place to crash for one night before a three-day conference just down the road.
The setting is perfect - just opposite a lock on the grand union canal. The village itself has two lovely pubs and a great indian restaurant. My room (RED - seriously recommend this one) was fitted out like a five star hotel and the bathroom is luxurious and has the largest bath I've seen outside a showroom. Everyone I encountered was charming, efficient and - crucially for me - knowledgeable about the local area. I'd certainly come back here for business or pleasure.
If I had to fault anything it would be access. I only had a suitcase and briefcase and found it a little tricky to negotiate the steps and narrow gate, so anyone with lots of luggage and perhaps limited mobility (let alone a wheelchair) would have difficulty.
But that's really all I can criticise, for me this was spot on - excellent value, location, standard and service.

Waterways cottage is a pretty thatched cottage offering 3 B and B rooms. We stayed in the Blue room whcih was decorated to a high standard and was clean and very comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful provided a plenty of loacl information while serving us our full English breakfast. The cottage is right in the middle of the village of Stoke Bruerne which is the perfect picture postcard canal village. It has a lock in the middle so you can watch the canal boats negiotiating the lock while sitting in one of the 2 pubs or the rather up-market restaurant. The countryside around the village is pretty and there are stately homes to visit as well s Towcester race course and SIlverstone motor racing circuit.
