My wife and I stayed here on a two night "Ramblers Break" (no rambling need be done) in May 2012. We booked a two night DBB break with a bottle of wine included on the first night, one afternoon tea and one packed lunch and access to the leisure centre for a total cost of £170 which was good value. The food was very good and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The hotel is a bit isolated on the border of Durham and Northumberland, but that's no problem. There are plenty of things to do in the area. The only minor niggle was the the television in the room was very old (a heavy crt model on a plinth on the floor so that it was not easy to watch it in bed) and although it received "freeview" channels the staff were unable to get subtitles to work - something of a necessity if you are hard of hearing as is my wife. It was ironic that the previous night we had stayed in a £29 a night Premier Inn which had a modern 40" television in the room. For a Best Western branded hotel we thought that this was surprising, but overall it didn't spoil a good value break.

Had a wonderful two night break at this hotel. Had a special deal that included two nights accommodation, Two evening meals with a bottle of wine on the first night, afternoon tea on one day, packed lunch on one day and free access to the leisure complex - swimming pool and sauna.
On arrival we were given a free upgrade to a suite that was lovely.

The staff were exteremely helpful and friendly. The complex obviously caters for weddings and whilst there were none on whilst we were there it may be busy at weekends.

The food was excellent with the breakfast being cooked to order, my only very very slight gripe being that only the Scottish hotels offer haggis instead of black pudding - pity but that was the only fault I can find (oh and the pot holes in the long driveway)

The suite was huge with lovely views and despite the weather being attrocious we had a lovely time and can fully recommend it. We will be returning.

Excellent value and a lovely place to spend a few days in comfort.

Room Tip: Try to get a suite. One of the suites was being redecorated whilst we were there. This had windows...

Glad you enjoyed the hotel, the pot holes are being repaired shortly , sorry but we have no intention of putting HAGGIS on the menu feel its a Scottish thing! Our rooms like the suites are decorated on a regular basis the views are great.

This was our 3rd overnight stay at the Derwent Manor, taking advantqge of a 'special deal' which included b&b & dinner with a bottle of wine (or beer). Use of the leisure centre was also included. Accommodation was excellent, staff on all levels welcomiing and helpfull. The menu choice for dinner was wide and cooked to personal choice. Chef did not turn a hair when one bleu & one cremated steak was ordered. We will definately be back (if there are any rooms left!!!!!) Cost of Deal £68 per couple..

My partner and I stayed for two nights bb/ed as part of the Ramblers break. Not that we are ramblers. The hotel is lovely, the bedroom we had was huge and extremely well decorated. It overlooked the valley and hills beyond. The evening meal was superb and the menu was different both nights.Full English breakfast as well. The television was sadly very old and on an ancient tiny stand so you couldn`t watch it in bed. The bar was smashing, no rediculous prices. Staff excellent.
The pool is great as well. If its relaxation you want and a bit of quality at a very fair price this is definitly for you.We have been to Derwent Manor before on a previous Hotel Shop deal and it is still brilliant value for money.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 234 and the views were smashing. The room is really big and beatifully furnished.

After one of the worst stays in a hotel ever I submitted a review of the Derwent Manor stating that after many, many stays I was asking my Company to find me an alternative hotel in the area. That was a few months ago and recently I discovered that I had been booked a room at the Derwent in error, I decided however to give it another try and am glad I did. Lovely quiet room, friendly staff on Reception and a very cheery "Good Morning" from Housekeeping. Yes, the TV in the room has seen better days (years) and it is not the quietest heating system but get the right room and the view, peace and quiet more than make up for some these issues. Location is important so if you want a quiet relaxing stay then this is the place. Looking back I think I was perhaps unlucky with the cumulative issues which prompted my previous review - to be recognised on arrival as a regular guest is a good start to any stay and on this occasion the Gentleman on Reception got it just right - Thank you!

Enjoyed a 2 night stay on a Ramblers break.Read the other reviews before we went and were pretty much spot on so well done to the TA Community!
Firstly the stay was generally good. The rooms were very clean spacious and warm. The bathroom was adequate. Although preferring contemporary rooms we agreed the dark wood worked with it`s location giving it a country feel. Staff were helpful the bed was comfy and everything "worked" in the room. With 2 Mobile phone chargers, cameras and laptops 2 single sockets in a room was frustatingly inadequate. The kettle and a very old TV (so low down we could not have watch TV in bed even if we had wanted) both shared a single socket. Up and down like a yo yo with the lack of plugs! The bar area was fine no Real ales but this is been addressed by management i believe. The Guiness was good and for a hotel at £3.60 the norm.
A later bar than 11pm would have been very much appreciated since we had had one evening out.
Food. Service was prompt the restaurant fine.
Evening meals led to surcharges of £5 for a steak and £2 for cheese and biscuit options on the dessert menu. This felt a little cheap and penny pinching although offset by a good Red which was included as part of the Ramblers deal.
Breakfast was very good given this rating by the variety of food available inc. porridge with different milks(other hotels please note).
Evening Meals. Let down by the portion sizes. One should not be hungry after a 3 course meal but we were.
Afternoon tea. Oh Dear an absolute disaster. The tea was warm not hot scones old and rubbery the jam was cheap 4 thin strips of cheese and ham sandwich in white bread that stuck to the roof of ones mouth. If i had paid £22 for that i would have been gutted-maybe i did who knows!
To summarise, a decent enough stay would i stop again? maybe would i rush back? no.
If i did it would be just Bed breakfast and EM.The pack up was poor and that bread-NO MORE!
The leisure facilities were average like the hotel.
3 stars for me.

Just dont know what to say really, for a value for money stay, £22 for the champagne afternoon tea is good, stay is well priced but included in your package was a mimi afternnoon tea, supplements on the menu allow us to upgrade a really good value for money menu which as you say included a really good bottle of wine. But thanks we will draw out the positives from your comments and dont forget your value for money package included a packed lunch each !!!!!!

We booked a £68, per couple, dinner, bed and breakfast deal and we were not disappointed. The room was a good size and immaculately clean although not modern. We have stayed in many Hilton Hotels and found this to be of a better standard than most and much better value. The dinner was a la carte so the portions were small, but the food was excellent. We even got a free bottle of wine of our choice. The breakfast was mostly buffet style, but in addition you could order a fresh cooked breakfast which was included in the price. The staff overall were extremely helpful and the service was excellent. We didn't use the gym, however we used the pool facilities. We will be booking again very soon. One thing to remember is that check in is after 3pm.

Room Tip: There are some beautiful views, so I would recommend that you ask for a room with a view when bookin...
