“Nice hotel-shame about the noise.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

I have never experienced doors that close and bang so loudly as in this hotel. The icing on the cake was Friday night when a Christmas party took place adjacent to our room. The noise until 11.30pm was horrendous from a group that couldn't sing or play and as we could hear every word of their attempt at humour, that wasn't too good either. Then for a further hour we were kept awake by the noise from the disco which although not as loud, the bass reverberated around our room. There was obviously no sound proofing whatsoever. One further annoying aspect were the supplements at meal times such as £4.95 if you wanted kippers at breakfast time or £5.95 for smoked salmon. We paid £2.50 extra each for prawn cocktail, £1.95 for tiramasu and would you believe £1.00 for a poached pear at dinner on Thursday night. Overall what appeared initially to be a nice break ended up being very disappointing.

.... Amazing food, amazing hotel, beautifully decorated throughout and to top it off the christmas decorations added that magical touch.. Being our 4th stay here at the Derwent Manor we certainly would recommend you pay this hotel a visit....
From the spa facility( unfortunately didn't have time to take advantage of these facility's on this visit ) to the beautiful quality food we were presented with, very friendly staff from Reception through to bar staff , Resturant service and cleaners in the corridors ~ this hotel definitely ticks all the right boxes !!!! Beautiful large room with most comfortable large double bed !!
Looking for a quiet relaxing get away from it all break ??? Give Derwent Manor a try. . . . It certainly won't fail to impress. . . We booked as a north east press package deal for £89 per couple for DB&B plus a bottle of wine of your choice ,then a wide selection to choose from for breakfast to set u up for the rest of the day, it certainly proved a hit for our friends we invited along ...see you again soon Derwent Manor !!

We arrived here last friday for a one nyt stay , on arrival our room wasn't quite ready although we did arrive 30 mins sooner than check in . We got told if we headed to the bar we would be served our complimentary soup & roll which was delish . After we got into our room we were more than pleased at the size of it and very very clean . Evening meal was faboulous and the service was great , the staff were very friendly too :) . We got talking to a man after our evening meal nd we were telling him that we were here for our 11th wedding anniversary ..... to our surprise when he left the barmaid came to our table with a bottle of pink champagne on ice for us from the owner we had previously been talking to . Car'nt thank the owner & staff for a faboulous stay which definitely made our anniversary a one to remember . Car'nt wait to return in the new year , nd would highly recommend Derwent manor hotel to any1 x

After holding our wedding at the Derwent Manor I cannot recommend this venue enough. Everything ran very smoothly with everything being coordinated by Julie. The bride and bridesmaids were staying at the hotel on the Friday night and because they were leaving very early the next morning, to visit the Salon for hair and makeup, Julie rang the room to see if they would like some breakfast packed up to take with them. Throughout the day nothing was too much trouble and we were looked after extremely well, again with Julie making sure everything ran to plan. The food was excellent and consistent to the last, everyone complimented it. Every member of staff we dealt with was lovely, courteous and helpful. We stayed in the bridal suite on the Saturday night which is superb with amazing views of the surrounding country on three sides. Breakfast next day didn't disappoint either and again the staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful.
I can't honestly think of anywhere that I could find fault. Superb.

A fantastic place for a wedding day to remember. I the bride spent Friday night there with my friends and family before my special day on saturday. All the staff were superb. The food was great. The wedding breakfast was top quality considering it was being served to 50 people. It was hot and very tasty. Nothing was a bother to all staff involved from the manager down to the waiter/waitress serving us. A glorious day to remember for myself and my husband. All the wedding guests have commented on our wedding being the best they have ever been to. Full of enjoyment and fun. The rooms were clean, towels changed each day and the Bridal Suite on the Saturday night was amazing.
Thank you Derwent Manor for a truly amazing stay and to make our wedding day a very memorable one. 5*

My eldest daughter booked her wedding at the Derwent Manor and I can honestly say that everything went off extremely well from the checking in to the checkingout. Service, food and everything on the big day was suberbly arranged and every attention to detail did not seem to be a problem. The wedding ran very smoothly by a member of the Derwent staff-full marksand the evening bash was again superb with an excellent buffet. The wine was not over priced but the only downside was that the "real ale" was not on tap. The next day all had been cleared away and all the presents, table decorations and favours nicely packed in one corner. The breakfsts on both days were adequate with a full and varied menu. Very well done at the Derwent by all staff. Some praise to the young lad on the final morning when the bridecouldn't find a bag with some personal things in and he went away and came up with the goods. All in all a very pleasant two days and would certinly recommend the Derwent Manor for not only a weding but a weekends stay.
Agree that the decor could probably do with an update but everywhere was clean and tidy.

Room Tip: Most rooms have an excellent view of the surrounding countryside.

Those regular weekenders will no doubt know what I am about to say ? After a long drive to the
north/east we were allocated our rooms which we noted were directly below a function room !!!!
We had a lovely meal on the Friday evening which was included in the price although the wine
offer was something of a disappointment. It was a voucher towards a bottle of wine the price of
which was in my view to much !!!!!. We were not allowed to combine two vouchers for one bottle ?. Early night ready for a busy day on Sat no problems slept undisturbed.
Following morning brexie was fine nothing special but plenty of choice.
We returned early evening following a very enjoyable day in Newcastle ( our first visit) and
yes you guessed it there had been a wedding and the function room was the venue for the
party/disco . The noise levels in our rooms was horrendous and our 18 month old grandaughter
tired from the events of the day unable to sleep became distraught. We couldn't watch tv let
alone sleep. OK it was only 9pm but we were ready for bed we have weekends away to
visit new areas and relax and if I choose to go to bed at 6.30pm then I should be able to do that
undisturbed. We complained and to be fair we were immediately offered other rooms in
cottages across the car park from the main building. At first we were not inclined to move due
to the inconvenience however due the continuing noise and the probability it was going to
continue for hours we were forced to move and it was a PAIN.I was not impressed with the
attitude of the general manager who intimated " at that rate "- " if you chose to go to bed at
9pm" Sunday morning prior to departure I handed in a letter of complaint requesting
compensation for the above. Initially we were offered £10 per room which I was not impressed
with. Following a few e-mails with the manager on our return home I managed to get that
increased to £30 per room which I continue to think was not sufficient.
My point is that when we were allocated these rooms it must have been in the knowledge
that there was a strong possibility that we would complain about the noise levels ?
( so why do so ) In any event it spoiled an otherwise very enjoyable weekend. In view
of the above I will not rate or further review this establishment suffice as to say we will
not be returning. My message would be "don't let them get away with it "
Be sure to ascertain on check-in if there is going to be an event in the function room
during you stay and if there is ? Do I need to say more.
