The hotel is well situated in the country with wonderful rural views with and easy access to both Newcastle, Durham and historic Northumbria. The Roman wall and associated historic sites are only fifteen miles away.

We were offered a 2 night stay through our timeshare company at an unbelievable price, including 2 breakfasts and dinner on the first night, so just had to try it.
The hotel looked very grand on approach standing in lovely grounds, in fact a wedding was in full swing as we drove down the long drive.
The hotel is quite isolated, a car journey to go anywhere.
The room was massive, 2 double beds [ a little lumpy ] very clean as was the ensuite, a little dated maybe but quite acceptable.
Breakfast was fine,a great selection just what was expected, dinner was also very good, 3 courses with a reasonable choice on each course all for £22. We decided to stay in and dine here the second night and weren't disappointed.
We spent a full day in Durham, a city never been to before and really enjoyed it.
All in all a great break, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Keep away from the wedding disco

Had a lovely two night stay here. Rooms clean and very spacious. Two double beds. Lovely views. Food lovely even though Apple pie was served cold with ice cream (expected it warm). Drive up to hotel could be upgraded. Leisure suite lovely. Pool jacuzzi and sauna all clean and well attended. Close to lots of amenities. Beamish museum well worth a visit

Tired bathroom, poor working shower. Not enough towels etc for 3 sharing the room. Leisure facilities dirty, pool too small for the hotel size. The changing room was out of use, my husband had to change in a disabled loo, unhygienic! We were not warned about this. Food was poor quality I had to complain. Over charged on the final bill.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, I apologise if you were not entirely satisfied with certain parts of your stay.

As new owners of the hotel we are fully committed to a multi million pound refurbishment programme and apologise for any disruption this may have caused you. The leisure club female changing facilities are being refurbished and male guests have been asked to change in the disabled changing room this is not just a toilet as you refer to, this is to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum for all guests, so we can improve the hotel for everyones benefit.

The overwhelming majority of our customers are extremely complimentary about our food and I apologise if you felt that we did not achieve the exacting standards we are proud of.

I hope for you to revisit our hotel once further refurbishment has been completed.

Kindest regards,

Stayed for three nights so that we could visit Beamish and surrounding area. Upgraded to a suite, so absolutely no complaints about the room as it was fantastic. The only comment I have is that the driveway leading to the hotel is in very bad state of repair with lots of pot holes and therefore very bumpy to drive along.

The hotel was great. We had a massive double en suite room and a lovely evening meal. The service was first class and I want to say thank you to the waiters and waitresses who couldn't have been more cheerful or more helpful. The breakfast was self service so you could fill your plate as much as you wanted. Apart from a slight mix up ( speedily resolved) when paying the final bill, and the fact that the duvets were too heavy for me causing me to be too hot during the night ( any possibility of choosing your own duvet tog here maybe ? ), we were very happy with our stay, especially the lovely dip in the pool, and we would definitely return. Thank you to all concerned.
