I booked a two night deal which included breakfast, a three course meal on both evenings and two tickets to Beamish, through "Great little Breaks", in response to an emailed ad. I had no idea what the place or the hotel would be like, but we had a fabulous experience. Though we agree with other reviewers, the rooms are a little tired-looking, but our room was huge, everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. It is a great location, scenery-wise, and I would certainly go again, and recommend it to others.
Chatting to the new owner was fascinating too!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view down the valley............... though all of the rooms look out on countr...

Had a great time but the hotel is starting to look tired but I do believe a refurb is scheduled for this winter. The food in the bar was excellent and the range of drinks good too. Sometimes the bar wasn't staffed when busy so had to wait. The swimming pool complex was excellent but while we were there the gents changing rooms were shut so we had to use the disabled changing room which although was great it diod create a wait.

The Derwent Manor is an imposing looking building in a delightful country setting. The bedroom was very large with two double beds. The view was amazing! The hotel was large and rambling and full of character. The restaurant was impressive and the food was delicious. On the second evening we ate in the bar and the food and service were excellent. We were impressed by the prices of wine and the Dry French house white was excellent value at £13.95.
I agree with reviewer who said that the hotel was a tad tired in some areas but this seemed unimportant as the views, setting, staff, food, drinks, comfort and cleanliness were all spot on. An excellent short break and we will be back.

Room Tip: Our room looked across at a viaduct. Stunning views and very quiet.

This is a regular stop over venue for me whilst working in the area.
Although the rooms are a little tired, it's a clean and comfy stay if you get the right room. Just ask for a nice room when booking as the team are ery helpfull.
The food is very good in the bar and it's comfy enough to enjoy your meal as a lone traveller. The choice is good and cost is fair. On a cold winter night you get an open fire in the bar which is good after a work out and swim in the on site facilities.
The whole venue is being revamped in 2014 and is already a popular wedding ensue, so i try to book early and have in the past found them full on accession.

Room Tip: Ask the staff for a good, quiet room away from reception.

Stayed here for 2 nights in late July as we are Best Western Reward card holders and most BW hotels are dog friendly. This one had beautiful grounds with excellent walks for the dog. Only had B&B and the breakfast in itself was good but a very strange arrangement if you want anything other than the scrambled egg on the hot buffet as you choose your hot food and then have to find a member of staff to ask for either a poached or fried egg. On both mornings the egg didn't appear until you had pretty well eaten the main part of your breakfast! The self service toaster was also a problem as it was very slow and hardly browned meaning you had to pass the bread through at least 2 or 3 times causing long queues - great if you want to socialise with your fellow guests but a pain if you are in a hurry!!
Nice small health suite which is great if not busy - lovely view of the surrounding moorland from the spa bath!!

We stayed here for 5 nights, the first 2 being part of a wedding package.
Guinevere’s Restaurant was able to handle a table of 12 on the first night very proficiently, with a three course meal priced at £22. Although it didn’t bother our party, the management may wish to consider pricing dishes individually in case other diners only want one or two courses. The only criticism was that some of our party wanted to charge their share of the bill to a credit card. To do so, they had to be escorted to the Reception.
As a couple, on other un-catered nights of our stay we ate in the Grouse and Claret bar. The steak and ale pie is one of the best we’ve had, and very reasonably priced. We appreciated that the main courses were automatically served with seasonal vegetables rather than having to be purchased separately.

Much has been written about the ongoing refurbishment – although the drive obviously needs resurfacing, we were unable to spot the famous pothole. Could this be because it is more obvious when driven over in hard suspension cars? There is a large one at the rear of the hotel on the emergency access road. What guest would need to drive around there?
The addition of another terminal might help the Reception staff cope with long queues when multiple people try to check in or out at the same time.
The spa changing rooms are still being upgraded although on our visit the Ladies was available. We enjoyed having a dip at the end of a hard day’s sightseeing!

Over all we enjoyed our experience. If we were ever to visit the area again, we would certainly consider staying at Derwent Manor hotel.
