This was our 2nd stay in this beautiful setting outside Rothbury, Northumberland. The walks and views from this location are superb. There is a friendly bar with good sandwich lunches. However, dinner was a huge disappointment: they had run out of all lamb dishes and filet steak. Three of us agreed to have sirloin instead. The two 'rare' ones were overdone, and the 'well done' was inedible. Another person in our group ordered fish and this was also inedible. We did complain and, in fairness, they did knock off one meal from the bill. But since we were staying in the hotel and had booked for our party of 9 to have dinner, I think they should have been better prepared. On the plus side, breakfast was wonderful. Be sure to try both the black pudding and the white pudding, both fantastic - and I had never had black pudding before. The view from the dining room in the morning is quite lovely.
We had a very spacious room, but it was overheated and the radiators wouldn't adjust. Since the windows were sealed shut, we weren't able to open them to allow more air in either. Others in our group found their rooms to their liking though.
