This place is absolutly amazing, the manager is one of the best, staff are ok not great but what can you expect from part time students who are overly fussed? Food is brilliant, had one problem with a starter, sent it back and the manager came and saw me and apologised about it being bland(I hadn't mentioned it being bland as not to embarrass in front of other customers) very very good! Assistant manger could do more(alot more!) in fact as I'm writing this stood at the bar, he's reading the paper and on his phone. But overall it's brilliant will be back everytime I'm this way even though it is a bit of a drive to Bristol, very worth it!

I went to The Carpenter's Arms on a weekday when it was farily quiet. The service was pretty limited, even considering there was not that many customers. My son was crying and it seemed as if there was eye rolling going on and they were not exactly over the moon to give an extra bit a milk for his bottle. The menu wasnot cheap at £8.95 for a Ploughmans and £4.95 for a children's meal. When the food came, the macaroni cheese was straight from a tin with not even a crispy cheese topping or a sprig of parsely to show a small bit of effort. The side orders were forgotten about until we asked. The ploughman's were very, very average with the pickle, onions, bread and salad all shop bought and straight from the packet. 1 slice of ham on the meat version, or two lumps of cheddar on the cheese choice. I will NOT be going back here again. Unfriendly, unattentive service and bad food for expensive prices with the ping of the microwave going off every 5 seconds in the back ground does not make for an enjoyable meal. The building and fire were the only bits of enjoyment.

We held our daughter's wedding at nearby Priston Mill and, although we live in Bristol, we had no hesitation in booking rooms at the Carpenter's Arms having eaten there a number of times before and found it excellent. All the rooms are excellent - yes, all! - we ended up booking all the rooms for family on the Saturday night. Residents have their own secure parking area and the staff were more than happy for us to park a vintage Rolls Royce there even though the owner wasn't staying there. The rooms are superb. They have comfortable beds and are well-appointed with good quality TVs, the usual range of toiletries and tea/coffee making tray. The latter is worth a mention as they go to the trouble of providing fresh milk in a thermos flask to keep it cool and a cafetiere is provided. We had used ours during the morning yet found it had been replenished by the time we returned from the wedding. The Manager and his staff were excellent even down to checking which order we would like our rooms made up to ensure the bride and wedding party were on time. There was a minor technical issue which was sorted out in most impressive manner. I stay in many hotels on business and have never found myself shaking hands with the manager at the end of a stay. It was a pleasure to do so at the Carpenter's Arms. If you are hosting a wedding nearby then book the Carpenter's Arms before your guests do! You won't be disappointed.

Visited this fine establishment once again - this time to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. Just as we expected everything was fantastic - the staff, ambience, ultra-clean rooms, food and drink. It is just our favourite place to stay, what more can I say.

We recently had an overnight stay at the Carpenters Arms during a quick pre-Christmas visit to Bath, Wells and Street. The Inn was all that you would hope for from a typically English country pub. When we arrived we unpacked in our very clean and well apppointed bedroom (with ensuite) and made our way to the bar where we sat, with a drink, by a blazing log fire - lovely!

We ate at the Carpenters "Coopers Parlour" in the evening and the food was very good. Overnight the Inn was quiet and we had a good nights sleep followed by an excellent breakfast. Service throughout our short stay was efficient and friendly and we would not hesitate to recoommend th Carpenters Arms to others.

Room Tip: At a weekend I would recommend a room that was not over the bar/restaurant area as this would be qui...

Everything was great about our stay – the rooms were great (we were two couples, one with a baby), the pub beautiful and the breakfast lovely. It's dear but worth the price.

I first visited the Carpenters' Arms about 15 years ago and went there again yesterday for lunch with my wife and some friends. Delighted to find it still an outstanding place. There are separate formal and informal dining areas in addition to the bar. Go for the informal - lots of atmosphere. Food was well up to scratch as I remember it from days of yore. Real ale served at the bar. The bedrooms have, apparently, just been renovated. Location South-West of Bristol about 10 miles from the airport makes it ideal for an overnight stay if you are taking an early flight, and much nicer than hotels nearer the airport. You may need a SatNav to find it, however. Lunch including starters, mains from à la carte menu, drinks and coffee came to £30. Highly recommended.
