“Mosquitos, Mosquitos and then some problems”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

I´m evaluating this hotel according to it´s price tag. Meaning that expectations were really high.

First of order of the day, mosquitos. We stayed for 4 days, in the night of the first day we had some heavy rain during the night, aproximately 36 hours after the rain, the property was infested with clouds of mosquitos (I really mean clouds, cartoon style, never saw so many). We were forced to wear a repellent just to do the basic stuff, like getting out of the room. The breakfast restaurant (Las Piedras) was infested with flies as well. The information we had at the check-in desk was that they were out of insecticide to use it in the property, so they could control the infestation. If you wan´t to pay US$ 800 a night to spend your vacations thinking of creative ways to avoid mosquito bites... that´s the place.

That said, the property itself like in facilities, service, food:

- Even with state of the art horse riding facilities - horses are not avaiable to hotel guests
- The kids club, boosting some dvds, books and toys is only adequate, and you would expect more - The one you see in Fazenda Boa Vista beats that one to the ground
- The pool, while it´s beatifull and the surroundings are really nice (when not infested by mosquitos), It´s not adequate for kids, The access is some inclined rocks that can be slippery when wet. Also during the first day my nephew had an accident with one of those rocks, no one from the staff prompted to help. The pool itself also has some sharp edges with rocks that can result in accidents.
- The room service provided for the one and only Caprese Salad without tomatoes I saw in my life. Also, even after asking two times for someone to come and take the dishes, no one showed up. The "alternative" version of the salad was tagged at US$ 40 - Some greens and a single piece of buffalo mozzarela.
- The minibar in the room did not work, and made some strange noises during the night (I would advise to stay away from suite 27).
- The closet had some serious issues with drawers and doors that did not open or close at all.
- While they may fail to get rid of the mosquitos, be sure someone with a Grasshopper will show up at 8 am right next to your door.
- The so called private beach is a hoax. It´s a sand box next to a dirty river.
- The Fasano restaurant (also infested with mosquitos last night), will boost some really simple food at stravagant prices that don´t match some basic quality standards (making a review for that as well).

That said, here is what you will find thats nice:

- Driving the golf cart around the property is fun (and when in high speed is possible to avoid mosquito bites)
- The quality of the breakfast is one the best I´ve seen, products are really nice and well presented
- The room itself (ignoring the above problems) is cozy, the bed is luxuryous and really confortable
- The views are great
- The property itself is very calm, and you will rarely cross with other guests, making for a very unique hotel experience (in this sense)

Fantastic hotel. Great structure, extremely confortable bed and rooms with a spectacular view. If you want to relax it’s hard to find a better place. The swimming pool is also great and each guest has a golf car to explore all the place. The staff is very helpful and we loved all their suggestions. There are two restaurants, but the best (Fasano) is open only on weekends, so unfortunately we couldn’t have our dinner there. The hotel is not near the beach or the city so it’s better if you have a car. We’ve chosen this hotel to celebrate our anniversary and it was definitely the best choice.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a charity purchase that was graciously donated by the Fasano chain. We stayed at all four hotels (Boa Vista, São Paulo and Rio) and loved this one the most! It is located far from the action of Punta del Este, but that is part of the charm, and beauty of really getting away from the crowds!
The hotel is exquisite and done with incredible attention to detail. The rooms are well designed and each suite has a gorgeous view of the countryside. The spa has the latest equipment, bikes are available to ride around the property. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and ordered eggs and pancakes which were made to order. We were so happy to stay at the hotel that we asked them to let us have room service dinner in the fireplace room off the lobby. They were totally accommodating and did a fabulous job. We would highly recommend this spectacular property for travelers who want to experience the ultimate in country hotels in South America! Kudos to the Fasano family for their incredible vision!

The sound of silence. Surrounded by fields and trees and grazing horses. The rooms are concrete cubes that are dotted around the landscape, somehow blending in perfectly. The beds are superbly comfortable, each little house has a porch, one can sit and watch the beauty. The property is vast, and one gets about in ones individual golf cart that comes with the room. The restaurant is good, has a great range of wines. Eating anything in the hotel is rather expensive, but then, the whole joint us, really. The bar is striking glass box, perched on the hillside. The staff were very helpful, took very good care of us.
The decor is beautiful, cosy, intimate, artistic and humane. I would thoroughly recommend.

One thing, it is rather a hike from the nearby local town, so be prepare de to either rent a car, or fork out a fortune in taxis.

A one of a kind property in the countryside outside La Barra/Punta del Este, Uruguay. Interesting architectural design amidst a beautiful setting combined with truly exceptional service and attention to detail make this property one of my favorite travel experiences.

While not on the beach, a short drive from La Barra. A modern hotel, that this year has introduced golf carts for each large luxurious free standing rooms, all with a good view over the country. I really like this hotel. The swimming pool, while looking good, is too small - but a small price to pay. The restaurant is outstanding, as is it's position, but out of season is not always open.
However, it is very expensive!

Room Tip: It is better, not to be too far on the outside, if you want to walk

We stayed for a family vacation over Xmas holidays. This is a very adult resort and boring for kids. For adults, particularly couples, it's a beautiful retreat, relaxing and romantic. The views are fabulous, the pace calming, the spa beautiful. The best part are the rooms, with lamb skin rugs that make you never want to leave, great beds and lovely balconies. It's a treat that they give each room it's own golf cart to get around the extensive property. The food is good at this resort too. It is the only hotel I've ever been to that gives the guests a different gift daily: wine, olive oil, alpaca wraps, candy. Also, I can't say enough good things about the staff. The most hospitable people ever; kind, warm, and helpful. Just a delight.

Tips: 1) You MUST rent a car if you are staying at this resort if you want to ever leave, which there is plenty of great reasons to do. Car rentals are ridiculously expensive here. 2) If you are insecure in a bathing suit, don't lay around the pool with all the Brazilian models in their thong bikinis. 3) Note that this is not near the beach and that's one of many reasons you will need a car.
